How does trotting him out to say we’ll know by Wednesday help from a PR standpoint if they indeed are scrambling? And if they aren’t scrambling then why worry about PR?

"No timeline and we don't have our guy" is much worse optics than "we have our guy, we'll tell you by Wednesday, relax."
BOS, Boosters, etc is very political. You can't just leave them completely in the dark after the Riley thing went down.

Biggest hire out of left field LSU can make is someone like Rhule or CUM who basically had zero traction to LSU. With Rhule, he seems like a perfect fit. I'm actually shocked we haven't seen more traction there. It was reported in October he may want out of the NFL. He admires the Saints system which is why he got Brady which would be a perfect translation to an offense we already run. He's a program builder and LSU needs a rebuild. Not only that but he probably would never want to go back to the NFL so you could get a Saban-like hire who stays there for 15+ years. They should've or should be throwing the bank at a hire like that with the money they're tossing around. If you have to inflate the market to get the hire so be it.

Because Woodward can play hardball with somebody who isn't really on anyone's list and force them to say yes by Wednesday. Think coordinators, the less sexy G5 coaches like Bill Clark, or Stoops.

Have you not been reading anything said at all today? If things are going to plan, Woodward let a rumor about a coach we're not getting who is way more exciting than anyone we could possibly get run wild and he needs to send something out there to calm things down.

If they don’t have their guy, then it would be a horrible PR move to give out specifics on date (Tues/Wed) of when the coach will be announced.

Where is LSU “derping”? All the Riley talk was smoke from his side. LSU had nothing to do with that. There are no loose lips and that’s why that rumor got so much traction because people are desperate to get any info right now. This coaching search seems to be going just the way woody wants it to go. Quiet and efficient.
