Justin Fuente - VT coach

He did an incredible job at Memphis turning around a program that was in the dumpster and taking them to a Houston level. Now, in six games, he's done the same with VT. In what was supposed to be a complete rebuilding year, he has the Hokies with 1 loss. Who knows how that game would have turned out if VT didn't have 5 TOs and Butch didn't have a horse shoe up his butt.
Maybe LSU will have a hard time beating out Texas for Herman, but they should be able to pluck away JF pretty easily.
I see no reason why his name shouldn't be in the mix.

He's in his first season at a Power 5 school. Regardless of what VT has been the last 5 years or so, they're a NC caliber program.
Fuente isn't leaving after one season.

If it isn't Herman, I can assure you that Alleva will be plucking away LSUs next coach from a power 5 program that could be a NC program. Otherwise, Alleva will be looking for a job himself.

VT really made out getting him. His offense to go along with Foster's defense.

Fuente ain't leaving after one year. He would have been a damn strong candidate if we had pulled the trigger last year though.

These are the current head coaches in the SEC (previous job in parenthesis):
UGA - Smart (DC - Bama)
Mizzou - Odom (DC - Mizzou)
USC - Muschamp (DC - Auburn)
UF - McElwain (HC - Colo St)
Vandy - Mason (DC - Stanford)
Ark - Bielema (HC - Wisconsin)
Aub - Malzahn (HC - Ark St)
KY - Stoops (DC - FSU)
Tenn - Jones (HC - Cincy)
Ole Miss - Hugh Freeze (HC - Ark St)
TAMU - Sumlin (HC - UofH)
MSU - Mullen (OC - UF)
Bama - Saban (HC - Dolphins)
So in the entire SEC, one head coach came from the HC job at a Power 5 school. It can be argued that LSU is a more attractive job than most of the recent SEC openings, but that doesn't mean Alleva will be able to just pick who he wants.

Are we going to name every coach as a candidate that pulls off a nice win the previous week? While bashing every coach who loses, saying he's not good enough.

justin fuente is a program builder coach like saban. he is the real deal. if you can get MEMPHIS to bowl games, you are doing something right.

MY goodness. this is gonna be a long season if we have people throwing out names of people in their first year at a power 5 conference team . Richt, Fuente etc..

No one is arguing Fuente's ability. But he's in his FIRST YEAR at Virgina Tech. Name the last coach to take a top tier job and leave after one season.

A couple of things
1. VT was not in a rebuilding year. People need to really start paying attention and they would have realized that Washington, Louisville, and Virginia Tech would be good this year and teams like Stanford and Notre Dame were going to be down. I had Tech winning the division because they got Fuente, because they managed to keep Bud Foster, because they managed to get that JUCO QB, and because they were bringing back a good bit of talent.
2. Virginia Tech is not some nobody job that you just jump from after only a year. He can build VT up to be at least as good as Beamer did when they won their division 6 times in 8 years and their conference 4 times in 8 years from 2004-2011.

It's not a good look to leave a school after one year but he is a good coach.

And that move was totally without controversy. I don't know what he was playing at, maybe trying to get a raise and Pitt called him on it. But by outward appearances, he didn't just straight away leave Pitt for ASU.
