Just going after a high ranked offense isn't the solution.

Many high ranked offenses are due to not playing high ranked defenses. Which, in the s.e.c., you will face.
The most important factor to this o.c. hire, assuming Canada is fired, is to find someone who can evaluate and recruit the qb position.
We don't need to throw it 50 times, We don't need to be overly exotic. We need to be balanced and have a qb that can executed the throws that need to be made.
If you look at the two teams playing for the n.c., neither are exotic on offense, neither throw it 50 times. They have solid qb play and a strong running game. We do not want to get away from a strong running game. We do want to have qb play that can find the open wr, te, rb, etc and execute the throw.
It's frustrating watching all the lobbying for this guy and that guy simply because his offense is ranked high. I watched several Ok State games this year. The offense wasn't all that great against quality teams/defenses.
I don't know who the guy is or should be. I do know the quality needed to be successful. Find a guy who can evaluate and recruit the qb position. You do that and everything takes care of it self.

i sort of agree but we also need to go ahead and join the 21st century in terms of offensive philosophy. It's time.

What this guy said. All of it. Y’all need to get off your PlayStations and Xbox’s and figure out that a team who runs the air raid spread does not win championships and certainly doesn’t consistently win in the SEC.

Oklahoma was a game away from the title. Clemson won the tile last year and nearly won it 2 years ago

I don't think anyone wants to just go off and throw it 50 times a game. That's what everyone wanted in Briles and will also get if they can land Gilbert. They run the ball just as much as they throw it. The difference is that they actually preside in the present with their offensive philosophy instead of the 1960s. Their concepts just spread the field to open up the running lanes. Can you imagine what a LF or Guice could have done in an offense like that where they were running into 6 man boxes instead of 8 or 9? That's what I never understood about our offense. Just spread the damn field and force them out of the box and if they don't want to do that then you throw it on them until they do. It's not rocket science but you have to have someone who understands and can teach the quarterbacks to make the right reads in those situations.

All 4 teams in the playoff run offenses with WAYYYYY more wide open philosophies than we have run here.
The old "play conservative on offense while playing great defense, keep in close and win it late by not making mistakes" is an outdated way of thinking. Of course nobody WANTS to make a big mistake but if you're going to win big these days you HAVE to take risks on offense. You just have to.

Both were balanced. Oklahoma ran for close to 200 yards on Georgia.

Alabama shouldn't have even been in the playoffs this year. If you take that into account the other 3 teams besides GA would've had spread offenses. Pick any other team worthy of the #4 spot and it's a spread team.

There is no one more exotic than Canada. We ran a spread offense this year. It wasn't successful due to qb and inexperienced line. fix the qb position and you'll see a lot of different offenses (west coast, I, power spread, option spread, passing spread) be successful.
Our problem was not scheme but execution of the scheme.

yes, we really did. Unfortunately, the fan base doesn't recognize it unless it scores points. If you score point, oh that is spread. If not, it's two t.e., full back, power I.

Texas fans didn't really like him.

What did we run, then?

I don’t think we should go back with the miles 3 yds and a cloud of dust then play d and hold on way of playing. I agree we need to open it up but I don’t think we should completely give up on our biggest offensive strength, the run. When was the last time a team who consistently threw the ball 50 times a game win a NC?

Crickets! That's what I thought.
