Jones will be a decent hire. Change my mind

Never mind you won't be able to.
I must admit this is about the least exciting hire I could have imagined when I dreamed of shite canning Pelini while watching a Louisiana kid with Bama torch our arse this season. Or while watching Mizzou WRs run 30 yards wide open.
When this name leaked I felt like I won the Jelly of the Month club membership.
However, instead of melting about reality I decided to see who we are probably about to hire. There's some good content out there of him MicEd up coaching from is days at Hawaii. Also some good interviews from elsewhere.
He seems intelligent. He also seems very calculated. From watching him, he 100% relates to the players and I am certain the kids will buy into him.
I'm not saying he's the second coming of Aranda or Veneables. However we are loaded with talent, and if he can just help our young studs line up and playball with a sound scheme it will be enough to win a ton of games with our offensive production trending up.
Pelini's Defense was about dead last in every single category there was, yet I can still see how we go 7-3 last year with W's against Mizzou and A&M with just a couple TINY breaks or starting Max Johnson against A&M
If we can improve to a top 50 defense, with the amount of offensive fire power we have. I think this hire will work out just fine.
We don't need a Lambo on defense. We just need a reliable, boring Toyota Camry. Jones is a Camry. Downvote away

So again, if we can improve to inside the Top 50 next year. It puts us back in the ballpark with what we got from Aranda in 2018 and 2019.

I mean in 2019 we had a top 30ish defense and we were the GOAT.
It's not unreasonable to think with a top 50 defense that peaks at the right time we could win another natty.

Yeah and we didn't play in a single close game down the stretch. We blew everyone out.

Hey everybody.. I know we have a top 5 defensive recruiting class in back to back years.. but a top 50 defense is the new bar.

So we went 5-5 with a Defense ranked DEAD last. If we were just ranked in the middle of the pack. Say 50th in 2020 what do you say our record would have been?
It's very easy to make a case for 8-2.
So yes, if Jones comes in and a single year we jump 70 spots up in total defense. I think you will see a vast improvement in our overall record. If he can get us to the Top 30 we can win a natty with ease.

Every year isn’t 2019. We won’t win the Natty with ease just because youre a fan of Jones.
