At Duke he hired 2 coaches.

Carl Franks: 7-45, including 2 0-11 seasons.
Ted Roof: 6-45.
I know Duke isn't a powerhouse football program, but it's hard to do much worse than that. His hiring record in other sports is nearly as bad.

God help us if Miles leaves.

I believe hell go after pelini and I'll be sick for weeks. I don't trust the admin to get an effective replacement.

Yeah, so incompetent that he lands high profile AD jobs.

Well if he has to make a hire, I'd suspect this hire will define if he's kept around as AD. LSU is a football school...if you screw that up, you're not an AD fit for the institution.

Agreed. He's 0 for 1 at LSU, but this one is crucial. His next great coaching hire will be his first.

Any chance he goes back to Duke and gets Cutcliffe?

i dont have much confidence he'll make a good hire. in his defense, theres not really a name that would unite tiger nation and make everyone happy. patterson would be most popular IMO

Yet Steve Spurrier and David Cutcliffe (who is also a hire by Alleva) have had success with the program. Franks and Roof were disastrous hires. One was hired because he was Steve Spurrier's assistant, but that means he didn't do much of anything since he was an OC for a guy who controls the offense. The second was the DC for one of the worst coaches in D-1. Great thinking, let's fire the guy who won 1 game a year, and then hire his DC.

I think Alleva will have plenty of input to point him in the right direction.

Joe Alleva's biggest lifetime accomplishment is that he is a slightly worse racquetball player than Coach K.

The fact that LSU made a head-scratching hire doesn't change Alleva's incompetence.

No one, and I mean no one, was sad to see Alleva go in Durham. In fact, many alumni wanted him fired. How he managed to make an upward move still baffles me.
