No one, and I mean no one, was sad to see Alleva go in Durham. In fact, many alumni wanted him fired. How he managed to make an upward move still baffles me.
Much more competent than our last AD. That might not be saying much but I have a pretty good gauge of that situation.

That could certainly be the case. I can certainly see Skip having no idea what to do, especially since his previous career experience had very little to do with the AD job.
I am basically comparing Alleva with his successor, Kevin White from Notre Dame, who also botched some hires with football at ND, but has done well with coaches and revenue-generating ideas so far at Duke.
Alleva's biggest successes at Duke were hiring Cutcliffe after 2 dismal hires, hiring his son's friend Sean McNally to coach the baseball team (basically his only hire involving nepotism that worked), hiring John Danowski to rebuild the championship-caliber lacrosse team he almost destroyed in one night, and staying out of Krzyzewski's way and being a consummate yes man for the athletic program's cash cow.

Fair enough. Duke is all we have to consult but at the same time it's Duke and the pool of candidates aren't exactly the same as LSU so I would hope that our pool comes with a little more certainty than he had at Duke.

hmmmm that is duke who is good at one sport and one sport only and that is basketball.

Duke is routinely in the top 10 in the Director's Cup standings and they usually outperform LSU. Of course, those standings include tons of non-revenue stuff like lacrosse, field hockey, volleyball, women's basketball, track, etc. Football and to a lesser extent, baseball, are the only sports they have struggled with, but those were the two sports Alleva was most involved in until 2006.
Tiger Authority, I agree. If Miles does leave, then LSU will have a lot of desirable candidates to choose from. I think that it may hurt LSU in the short run, with recruiting and a new system, but I highly doubt that there will be a disastrous hire. I imagine LSU would hire a consulting firm or at least a few advisers, just like most top tier schools.

The Director's Cup means absolutely nothing. >95% of those sports are money-losers and add nothing to the university.

I agree, but there are literally two sports that make money: men's basketball and football. If a school is the best of the best in basketball and the ultimate bottom dweller post-Spurrier and pre-Cutcliffe for football, it doesn't mean the school is a coach's graveyard. It means that there have been some shitty coaches hired instead.
