on my link to his herd appearance this week he stuck up for OBJ

He also hasn’t coached in three years.

I wouldn’t mind a former NFL coach who took his team to the SuperBowl being an assistant for us.

Jeff Fisher wants back into coaching

You know there are lots of coaches who tried the NFL and ran back to college who have < 500 winning %. One of them resides in the SEC at this moment, another one was the Standard back in the 90's (Spurrier).
They had national titles in college then left for two years. Fisher hasn't coached in college ever.
So is it an easier transition to go to coaching NFL to college or vice versa. I know what I believe to be the case. The only issue NFL guys who go to college for the first time have are the recruiting parts of the job. Most of those NFL guys don't like trying to cuddle 18 year old HS players to come play for them.
And again, I am not for or against Fisher. I just said he is > 500 winning % and got a team to the Superbowl. Lots of College guys who went pro (HOF) guys did not do well in NFL (Holt, Spurrier, Saban) to name a few.

Research Kris Richard. Much better resume with the Legion of Boom

Fisher bout to become the defensive Sean Salisbury.

Is O familiar with him, any past connections?
John Robinson is probably the go-between.
I mean, looking at Fisher's assistant coach credentials - he was a "defensive assistant" on arguably the greatest NFL defense ever. Yes, I'm talking about the 1985 Bears. He also coordinated some good/great defenses in Philly and with the Rams.
He's 62 this year, never coached in college, never done recruiting, has no credentials for a modern, college, defensive environment.
Our short list should be:
Venables (Why not?)
Grantham
Diaz
Strong
Shoop
My dark horse? Matt House (currently Chiefs LB coach, but did fantastic work at Kentucky a couple/three seasons back.)

Fisher had no business being in the NFL as long as he was. He sucks.

Shaft: If he sucks in the NFL, what does that mean for all those college coaches who went to the NFL and do not have a 500 winning %, one of them is coaching at Alabama, one use to coach for Florida, etc.
He was a solid NFL coach, or at least slightly above average 178-170 combined regular season and playoff record.
And again, I am not clamoring him to be LSU's DC. Just trying to be objective about the guys career.

I'd rather Chiz if we're going with guys that have been out of coaching. At least he's been studying the offenses in the conference as part of his job

Jeff Fisher still sucks and many NFL players have nothing good to say about his decision making. Jeff Fisher and Marvin Lewis are both two coaches that kept their jobs and shouldn't have. Although as a DC Marvin Lewis is elite. Mentioning Saban and Spurrier doesn't do much.

I can't believe anyone even entertains this idea.

What players say about him is obviously based on those players perspectives. Some players may disagree with his decisions. That is human nature, people disagree on things.
His record is what it is. My mentioning of Saban and Spurrier was to make the point that lots of guys went from College HC to NFL HC and did not succeed at that level (Holtz, Spurrier and Saban, are all NC winning coaches who fit that bill). This thread has gotten long and someone talked about NFL to College and college to NFL, etc. Fisher does have a > 500 winning %. That is the only point I am making.
And again, I would rather get a DC from college, that has had some NFL coaching experience, but has also had to recruit and evaluate HS football prospects

And I want to be king of the world. We both have unrealistic wishes.

Out of coaching for several years.
Was terrible his last few years with the Rams.
Has never shown that he knows how to defend a modern offense.
Irascible and not able to relate to younger generation players.
What could go wrong?

At his age, I would question his passion to coach and his desire to recruit.

Venables not gonna happen.
Grantham using LSU to get a raise.
Gotta wait a year or 2 for Diaz to be available.
Strong would probably come and do a good job.
Shoop may be DC in waiting at Michigan, which if he's going there means he wants it. No other reason for him to go there with Don Brown there.
It's gonna be Richard because O knows him. That may or not be the best guy but that's my prediction.
