A new defense filing in the case involving rape charges against four former Vanderbilt players claims that then-Commodores and current Penn State coach James Franklin contacted the accuser shortly after the alleged incident.

The filing prompted a response from Franklin later Tuesday denying he "did something wrong" after defense attorneys for Brandon Vandenburg -- one of four former players charged with five counts of aggravated rape stemming from an alleged on-campus assault of a 21-year-old female student last June -- asked the court to dismiss the charges because the prosecution failed to preserve key evidence.

In the filing, the defense says Franklin and strength coach Dwight Galt -- who left Vanderbilt for the same jobs at Penn State this winter -- talked to the accuser during a medical examination four days after the rape.

Franklin and Galt told the woman "that they cared about her because she assisted them with recruiting," according to the filing. Later, the defense said, "Coach Franklin called her in for a private meeting and told her he wanted her to get 15 pretty girls together and form a team to assist with the recruiting even though he knew it was against the rules."

According to The Tennessean, Franklin "added that all the other colleges did it."

Not just that...the dude admitted in court he saw the video and advised the players to delete it.

They fricking raped someone on his damn staff and his reaction was to cover for the players. frick him.

I'm in the anyone but Franklin camp. Dude tried to fight a fan in the stadium after a loss. He is just a black coach O. frick him.

Also, once he notified Vandy he was taking the PSU job, didn’t he go full on a-hole on the way out?

Dude would put LSU on the death penalty for sure. If you're going with someone like this you miles well throw the bank at a guaranteed winner in CUM.

I feel like he's about to get a raise at Penn State.

I’m surprised the media has stayed away from this for the most part.

It’s probably so many PSU alums at ESPN that have kept this under wraps for the most part.

It's literally an article linked from ESPN.com. It's just that it happened years ago.

Needs to be a new post every day reminding people of this fact. I want a winning football team and don't mind when there are "unethical" recruiting activities behind the scenes.

Franklin's actions and response to the Vanderbilt case are so much worse than that.

Amazing how it's just glossed over or forgotten when discussing him as a possibility.

It's weird how some of the shite he did mirrors stuff that happened at LSU under Miles.

USC has a way worse rape/sexual assault scandal going on than LSU. I can't believe he's getting any traction there.

Well, it is certainly on brand for PSU. Those who think that Sandusky was a lone wolf in that sordid affair are misguided.

Will Wade has a new “article” released about him every time he gets a big win. The articles are old, tired accusations that Will Wade allegedly did something that all of the same liberal media that condemn him get on their soap box and say that it’s unfair to not do this...

pay players.

With James Franklin we are talking actually trying to destroy evidence of a rape.
