Jax would be perfectly fine getting to .500 for a few years.

I don’t really think that they would be okay being .500 and missing the playoffs for “a few years.” With Trevor Lawrence and some of the other pieces they have, they’re going to want to start taking advantage of them ASAP.

That team needs an old school guy like Bill Parcells or Joe Gibbs. It’ll never happen because they are 80+ but they need to get back to basics.

Isn’t that what Coughlin was brought in to do as a GM? I don’t know enough about the situation as to why it didn’t work out.

Khan seems somewhat impatient and a bit delusional - he wants to win immediately, but doesn’t realize it takes time. And it takes even more time with a roster and staff that are terrible. He’s facing a long long rebuild, and firing a coach every year or two isn’t gonna cut it. Even Belichick had several years of rebuilding/reloading between SB runs.

I'd saying getting Trevor Lawrence's career on track over next 3 years is the only priority. If barely winning seasons is what that translates into, great... but trevor lawrence is THE priority imo. Or should be at least.

Best job in the world is fired NFL coach. Guaranteed to be recycled.

The colts sacrificed him after they had to start Curtis Painter all year and the lions are just retarded, firing him for Matt Patricia

Caldwell doesn’t create any buzz or excitement but the guy is a solid NFL head coach.

This is the same dumb assumptive reasoning that landed them Urban Meyer in the first place

Dabo also won't be at the club awkwardly dry humping.

Says who? Also you can assume that for pretty much any hire so hard to use that as a reason to hire

quote:

Modern football is more about program management and less about X's and O's.

Just because you can say something, doesn’t mean it’s true

Who are all the “program managers” who are crushing it at the NFL right now exactly?

Just for fun I’ll list the coaches you can reasonably argue are “program managers”

John Harbaugh
Mike McCarthy (technically was an X’s and O’s coach, but was very bad at it so now he’s just the figure head)
Joe Judge
Whoever is coaching the Raiders right now

That’s it. That’s the list. Every other active HC in today’s game was hired directly due to their competence and or experience on either the offensive or defensive side of the ball. And the results on that very small sample size are pretty mixed. So again, why exactly do you think that Program management is what football is about these days?

Dan Campbell
Mike Zimmer
Pete Carroll
Matt Rhule
David Culley
Mike Tomlin

I don’t think any of them are involved with everyday x’s and o’s

Looks like the list I had wasn’t fully finished, bad googling on my part but my point remains, and if anything my point is strengthened with the names you listed

Pete Carroll and Zimmer absolutely have their hand in the X’s and O’s

Certainly there’s a couple of outliers like Tomlin and Harbaugh, but those guys were also hired over a decade ago so hard to say they point to some big trend moving forward for program managing coaches being the way.

Do you really want your hire to follow the Dan Campbell, Matt Rhule, and David Culley model?

Aren’t they trying to move to London?

Think so. I’ve always thought that was a dumb move. Mexico City would have much more rabid fans and home field advantage with the altitude.

Agreed. The nfl has a thing for recycling coaches. Been that way for as long as I can remember. It’s bizarre

Dan Campbell is calling the plays.

That's carroll's defense.
Zimmer's defense and he calls the plays. I couldn't even name their dc.

Tomlin is def involved in defensive game planning.

If by that, you mean adding more talent to the roster, yes.
