Is there any scenario where Matt Rhule is the Jay Johnson-type surprise big name hire?

I can’t let go of this idea. Tell me I’m crazy. Maybe with Joe Brady back as OC!

Not with the Brady part I don’t think…but any other name is possible. Nobody knows anything.

I would love him as coach, I just find it difficult see happening. I feel like (and I could be wrong) Rhule would not pull a Bobby Petrino and leave the Panthers in the middle of the night……

The only reason I thought about this one is Joe Brady

Brady interviewed for HC jobs in the NFL last year. I know he interviewed for the Texans Job.

With Cam coming in I don’t see him as a Rhule fit and I could see Rhule leaving and maybe Brady as an “interim/trial run” as the HC

No one was mentioning Jay Johnson. People have been talking about Rhule for weeks.

The equivalent of a Jay Johnson hire in terms of a name that got very little mention would be Brian Kelly.

This. Unless he knew he never wanted to coach in the NFL again, he would never do it. Personally, he strikes me as too much of a pro to do it, no matter what. There’s no going back after a move like that and it sticks with you wherever you go. A piece of shite like Bobby P wouldn’t care about that, but most other coaches would.

I think so, and wouldn’t be surprised if it is him.

Umm, Saban? Similar scenario - Rhule has no pathway to getting a great QB at Carolina. Without a QB, he may well be out after next season. Why not jump before pushed? He can offer to coach out the season, but the owner wouldn’t want him to.

Saban was similar, but did not just up and leave in the middle of the season like Petrino did, if I remember correctly. I do understand though that he did emphatically deny the reports, only to cut and run after the season, so there’s that. Bobby just disappeared like a stale fart in a stiff wind……

That would be a jaw dropping shocker of a grand slizam hire.

I’m happy already, thinking it’s Riley, but that Rhule Brady combo would have Saban leaving his mansion at 1am driving to his office immediately.

It’s obvious how much Ensminger’s sure hand in running the offense kept us competitive. I think adding spread and RPO concepts were key, kudos to Brady for that contribution. 2019 was a hell of a year!
