Tucker
BoB
Franklin
Kiffin
I don’t think Riley or Dabo are coming. Should be down to two guys: Napier and Aranda.

was promoted to defensive coordinator in the 2008 season following the firing of Todd Grantham.[7][8] Under Tucker, Cleveland consistently ranked fifth in the league, with the defense making 73 interceptions.[5] After the firing of Browns head coach Romeo Crennel, Tucker was replaced by Rob Ryan.[9]
In 2009 Tucker was hired by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the defensive coordinator. In the 2011 season head coach Jack Del Rio put Tucker in charge of defensive play-calling, and the team quickly became the fourth highest rated in the NFL.

In 2016, Tucker moved to Georgia as the defensive coordinator,[16] where he remained through 2018.
You can point to some lows, too. But, Aranda had some low stats, too and is an ELITE D-Coordinator.
Again...not "my guy". But, we don't need to ignore accomplishments

He is a pretty terrific D coordinator.
He has fielded some absolutely awful Defenses at different stops in his career.

Tucker. His entire history reflects nothing but mediocrity punctuated by occasional disaster.
So you should also feel the same about Kiffin then.

We don’t need to pretend he called UGAs defense either

Good Lord. That is what people said about Kirby under Saban.

I’m not advocating for Tucker. But, how on earth is he “another O”?
Same here, BHP, but you're dealing with maroons on this board who think Dabo Swinney would be "another O."

Ouch! I bet that hurt. RR was the worst DC in the history of the NO Saints.

This is exactly what shouldn't happen, basing a decision on one season. If you do that, then O would have been the best coach ever after 2019.

Oh I agree 100%
I’m just saying this season is really the first piece of actual HC data on Tucker.
And to your point, even if he checks all the other boxes, and even if he ends up with a successful season this year, it’s probably way too early to hand him the keys.
I am Definitely NOT saying hire him if he goes 9-3 or better this year. Just saying that would be the first piece of true data/experience as a successful HC.

O'Brien
but I was an arse about O and had a bunch of egg on my face in 2019 so I'll give anyone a chance.

Yeah I’ve learned my lesson too, not just with LSU hires but other schools hires.
Just because it seems like a grandslam hire that is guaranteed to have success, it oftentimes doesn’t work out. (Herman, Frost, MuschampFlorida)
And on the flip side, just because it seems like a meh/bad hire, sometime those work out and exceed expectations.(Dabo, Orgeron, Rhule/Baylor, Pittman)
So yes, it’s best for everyone to chill regardless if we think it’s a good hire or bad hire. The proof will be in the pudding once they start to win or lose games, it doesn’t matter at all how we feel at the time of the hire

For the clowns who say Tucker, you obviously have not researched him whatsoever. Top recruiter, highly respected in the coaching circles, been praised by other coaches for his program building and organization, NFL and national championship coordinator, obviously good at roster management, and if you listen to him in press conferences, he’s very intelligent and thoughtful.

That seems like a complicated defense they run.

As a head coach, his defenses have been horrific.

Tucker and Bill O'Brien would be my two biggest buggaboos.

Intelligent post. I agree with everything you said.

This is false.
As a coordinator, his defenses routinely performs worse than his predecessor's defenses (and get better when he leaves).
His Colorado defense as HC was horrific.
But otherwise, his best defensive units have been as a HC (Jaguars as interim; Michigan State).

Tucker does have a great resume and experience IMO. And is widely known as an excellent recruiter. Obviously knows the SEC.
I totally agree his HC experience is a huge huge concern. But other than that (and don’t get me wrong that a HUGE other than), he has a very nice resume.
You can’t know anything good or bad from his 1st year at Colorado or MichSt, that’s why this season is so important in making an evaluation of Tucker.
His pre head coach resume is way more impressive than Napier, but I don't think any outsider can judge his head coaching. What you can do in one year is difficult to discern externally. Even at MSU due to covid, it's more like an interim coach in his first year as a full time coach.
Regardless of how the season turns out for him, and I believe he's going to lose a few, it will difficult to make an informed opinion as an outsider. People in the business with good contacts can get a good sense of him. If he is hired we should give Woodward and co the benefit of the doubt.
Napier's pre head coach resume is really pretty weak. However, he's done pretty well as hc. However, he hasn't won anything (except a "We could have participated in the Sun Belt Championship game" co-championship with an undefeated team that beat him at home). We don't know if he can replicate this, nor do we know if he can sustain it because we haven't seen it.
Again, people in the business can get a better sense of this and he too should get the benefit of doubt if Woodward hires.
