The decision was actually made at halftime of that game, mainly by Jindal and Alexander. Alleva, as per, was completely neutered like the cuck he’s always been.

The only one that might have been real was the Jimbo smoke but it never seemed close.

Riley was never going to LSU and Herman was always going to Texas without a 2nd thought about LSU.

I doubt Riley/Herman ever had a legitimate conversation about the opening.

Wasn't this from the late great Tigerlawyer?

Yup. I just checked his twitter, and he hasn't posted in years.

ETA: as outlandish as all of this sounds, it is completely true.

Most of us wanted Jimbo … looked like it was happening…. It didn’t… We definitely dodged a bullet

Most of us wanted Herman… looked like it was happening… it didn’t…. We definitely dodged a bullet

Most of us wanted Riley… looked like it was happening… it didn’t… we probably dodged a bullet

Seems most want Kiffin… looked like it was happening… maybe it doesn’t… it’s certainly a possibility that we will dodge a bullet

I’m still not convinced Kiffin is the right guy for LSU. Not at all saying I wouldn’t be cool with Kiffin at LSU…. Merely pointing out that sometimes it works out even when it doesn’t. If Kiffin doesn’t come to LSU, it very well could work out for the best.

Did we? I remember Jimbo being a fairly controversial hire.

I think most wanted Herman.

I remember this being like Jimbo. Some wanted, others not so much.

Herman was definitely coming to LSU if the Texas job didn't open. But he wanted the Texas job, and his representation used the immediacy of LSU hiring Herman to force Texas's hand. LSU didn't leak the news about Herman that Thanksgiving night. That was Herman's people to leverage Texas. It worked. Alleva was pissed at getting played by Herman and his agent, so he rushed to the podium the next day to announce O has the HC as kind of an FU to Herman.

With Riley, it's not like USC "swooped in at the 11th hour". Helton was fired BEFORE Orgeron. It wasn't a surprise USC was in the market for a new HC. The "insiders" felt Riley was the guy, but it seems pretty clear LSU did a good job of keeping Kelly's name in the dark because there was very little, if any, talk about him getting the job...until he did. I doubt that was snap decision for either side.

I think Alleva moved to fire Les without the full support of the BOS and all big donors. He either thought he had the requisite support OR he was going to strongarm it by confirming Jimbo. He didn't have Jimbo locked up and the BOS/boosters weren't fully on board with firing Les at that time...so Joe's coup fell flat. The team carrying Les off the field had no effect. Joe had already been forced to keep Les before that game even ended.

The first time we tried to hire Jimbo from FloridaSt to replace Miles it wasn’t controversial at all. Everyone pretty much wanted him. That’s when Miles got carried off the field.

It was the second time that we tried to hire Jimbo from A&M to replace Orgeron is when it was way more divided among the fanbase, with most not wanting it and wanting Herman.

Well for Herman the ESPN broadcasters as well as the ESPN bottom line ticker flat out stated Tom Herman had agreed to a deal with LSU. This was during the LSU regular season finale against Texas A&M at college station.

FFWD a few days later Interim Coach O was named the HC.

I have a theory this was leaked to ESPN by Orgeron after he was told he wasn't selected. As expected it caught the ear of Texas who jumped into action. Herman wanted Texas 10x more than LSU. Herman to LSU was killed before it got started.
