If we lose Miles, and Patterson stays at TCU, I say we look to MSU

I think Mark Dantonio would be a dark horse to replace Miles, but his track record is quite impressive and his defensive background would lessen the loss of Chavis, if that happens. Also, his pro-style offense would fit nicely with our 2011 talent.
Granted, I have no clue if he would be interested in LSU or even leaving MSU, but he would be a very solid hire IMO. What do you think?

I would fear for his health if he came here. Having problems with his ticker, and coaching in Baton Rouge might not be a good combination. Good coach though.

Dantonio was also hospitalized twice this year. Once after the ND victory after suffering a heart attack. Not saying that disqualifies him in any way, but coaching in the SEC can't be good for your health. It makes me wonder how long he wants to stick with coaching.

He is still only 54 and has a significantly better track record than Saban or Miles did before they got to LSU. Agreed that his health is a wildcard, however.

Saban was 43-26 prior to coming to LSU. (Toledo and Michigan State)
Miles was 28-21 prior to coming to LSU. (Oklahoma State)
Mark Dantonio has a 51-36 career record (Cincinati and Michigan State)
There's not much difference between Saban and Dantonio. However, Dantonio has 8 years of head coaching experience, compared to Saban's 6 when he came to LSU. Miles inherited a pretty bad Oklahoma State job, and did well considering.

Mullen's a great coach and if Miles leaves he would definatley be a coach I would consider but man, he reminds me of The Waterboys dad with that suit on in that picture.

Overall, probably not, but Dantonio is much better in his tenure at MSU than Saban was. I am not saying that Dantonio is a homerun hire, but I do not see many drawbacks with him either.

If Miles leaves, LSU needs to back a dump truck full of money to Patterson's doorstep. If that doesn't happen they need to get someone proven. LSU is paying a top 5 salary to a buffoon at the moment and if they're going to continue to pay around $4MM a year, they damn sure should get somebody worth it.
I honestly think they should go after Patterson. If that doesn't work, go for Peterson from out in Boise. He has no ties to the recruiting territory around here but it's not like Les knew the local gas stations either when he showed up.
Mullen would be a great hire but ya know, I really would prefer to stay away from poaching their coach. All that would do is make a bunch of ignorant farmers upset. He'd be their new Saban.
Patterson or Peterson.

Name the last school, in your opinion, that went out and successfully found a premium, Top 10 coach...

I don't want him but Gundy has a more impressive resume and is alot younger.

he was one of my top choices before the medical issues came up. I think Michigan should consider him.
