re: If UT (or a booster) leaked the information to ESPN, how can that help UT?

So, they're just supposed to give up and let LSU grab Herman?
i don't think the UT admin was that hot on Herman
this is all UT boosters trying to undermine the UT AD and the LSU deal
the AD had already "given up" on Herman
the boosters don't get to make the final decision, even though they think they do

Pro ball. More corporate than college athletics where everything is fit, emotion and coaches have more leverage in how teams/programs are run

Except Herman isn't content at Houston, it's not an apples to apples comparison.

UT is gonna make a run at Chris Peterson if Strong is fired.

They could have fired Strong earlier and started doing work then
That's what is funny about this. "They" couldn't fire Strong because "they" are boosters working in an unofficial capacity. And "they" still are trying to pull strings that can't be pulled until the official decision makers allow them to by firing Strong. Which is something the real decision makers don't really want to do.
The disconnect between the AD and boosters at Texas is great theater. The disconnect between the Texas AD and reality, and the boosters and reality, is also great theater.
And this thread is where we get to play Leonard Maltin.

Well it's an interim AD they're dealing with. Leadership is clearly nonexistent out there.

I bet McRaven and Feneves keep Strong just to send a "frick you" to the meddling boosters.

if they don't get Herman, which it seems they're not (i don't think they really pursued him), who else can they really target? i think the boosters leaked the info about herman/LSU and then the AD leaked the info that they're keeping strong if they don't get Herman as that "frick you". more of a "if you're going to pull this shite, we're not going to try to save face after firing strong when potential candidates clearly see the toxic environment you're creating here"
*ETA: but i could see more UT boosters leaking the "keeping strong" stuff to create that leverage

I think there is a lot of truth in this statement. The conflicting reports of Strong's firing coming from "reputable" sports media guys last weekend illustrates this pretty well.

With the next frick you being the boosters and politicians sending them packing.

Again, ut got caught on the outside looking in. They have a later game today than uh, so lsu is in a position to sign Herman before they can even fire Strong.
I think ut boosters, in all of their misguided bravado, are trying to start a media shite storm that could potentially blow up the deal and give them more time to respond. Maybe they slowplayed this because they drank the "ut is herman's dream job" koolaid. They are risking pissing herman off royally, but they cant sit there and let him ink with lsu without a fight. It's the only play that makes sense.
