re: If UT (or a booster) leaked the information to ESPN, how can that help UT?

UT needs that Emmert/Saban combo that purged the clutter of the 90s out of LSU. The fact they don't even have an AD is a red flag IMO.

Maybe Herman told them he has no interest of coaching at UT so they decided to frick it up for everybody. The taking my ball and going home approach.

i did think about this and that makes the most sense

the problem is that if they frick up the LSU angle, he's likely going to lil brother TAMU

how could he not see the writing on the wall? Saban did and IMMEDIATELY backed out of his deal with UT

Maybe he likes what he's reading. From what we've been led to believe, UT is his "dream job".

It's still sketchy as hell, and the leak really doesn't benefit anyone other than Texas. I'm sure this situation will have plenty more plot twists through the next 24 hours or so.

Bottom line: if Herman wants to be at Texas, their mismanagement of this situation and their treatment of Strong will not turn him off.

If he doesn't sign LSU's offer today, then he's not coming to LSU. Just being pragmatic.

If it is still considered to be his dream job, I could see how he could still be torn.

on the same token, logically and objectively, it's a fricking shite show and this is like the goddamn bat signal of "shite show" going on. there is no way an intelligent, rational person can look at this UT stuff (as well as their behavior last time) and think that it's workable. the greatest coach of all time saw it and backed out.

I agree with ya, however....

IMO Herman agent leaked it to UT officials.

i cannot believe this

it's way too late in the negotiation process to start this. as a agent, if you pull this, it's a nuclear option and may taint his client for all jobs moving forward. that would also mean that Herman has no interest at all in LSU and is literally only negotiating, to the last minute, to create leverage to get UT to bite

if he did that, he'd be taking a HUGE risk. if it didn't work out, he may have to stay at Houston b/c that's so underhanded it's a major red flag

I still think this came from Herman's agent, to send a message that Herman wants an offer from Texas by Saturday. I think Strong is fired today and Herman has a UT offer by Saturday.

makes no sense. if he wanted an offer by Saturday, they could request that without all the public scrutiny. the whole situation is contrary to how Herman has conducted himself this entire ordeal and just seems to be in line with how Texas boosters have behaved in the past.

Mensa member or not, it doesn't take a genius to see that if your potential employer is treating the other guy like trash on his way out the door, that's probably how they'll treat you one day.

There is no way Herman or his agent would want this info out in the public the day before his last game. Not only does that create a cloud of controversy around him but it makes him look like a prick for abandoning his team the night before a game. Just not a good look at all. All it would have taken is a phone call if they were trying to goad UT into firing Strong. Making it public just makes things complicated.

that is exactly what turned away Saban and other options a few years ago and why they had to settle on a guy like Charlie Strong. how could this move somehow end up helping UT? Herman is in MENSA so he's smart enough to realize what's going on if the UT leak to sabotage LSU and Herman works, not only is it one of the more underhanded and fricked up ways to accomplish that goal, it would show an irrationality that is almost insanity for a super intelligent person. i just can't believe this hail mary could work out for UT

It would be a Hail Mary. If they thought they had nothing else left, that is a way to throw a monkey wrench in the process and try to sow discontent and leverage that to get back in the game.

UT's administration is weak and has no sports background. Their army of insane boosters is likely to do a lot of stupid things because of how they view the decision makers. I don't really credit them with having the foresight of what lobbing such a grenade might actually do.

exactly

just think about that. he doesn't really have interest in LSU, agrees to a deal, and then tells his agent that NOW since he's agreed to the deal, leak it to ESPN to force UTs hand? when they haven't been that warm towards him (i suppose, or else he'd be going to UT). what if UT doesn't change their mind? Herman sabotages his LSU deal or has admitted to not really wanting to go to LSU? that's nuclear-level baggage

oh i agree that's the motivation

but it makes them into a shitshow. i just can't see that being a selling point for Herman

I hope what you say is right, but Saban wasn't an alum of UT. He could personally give 2 shits about the school. It's just a job to him.

Herman, most likely in his heart, wants to be at UT so he may feel flattered they leaked it to get their asses in gear to make an offer.

But I hope with all hope It pissed him off and burnt a bridge with him.

The people at UT that are responsible for things like this aren't smart enough to realize it hurts.

I don't see how it could help. It creates a perception of extreme dysfunction. Not to mention it's disrespectful to make public comments about a potential hiring candidate. Especially one that's not your own.

So, SFP, do you think LSU gets Herman or is the leak enough to kill the deal?

I completely agree with you. I just think the last 3 years shows ample evidence that no one there has any control over the boosters, and they just keep on fricking things up.
