If UT (or a booster) leaked the information to ESPN, how can that help UT?

that is exactly what turned away Saban and other options a few years ago and why they had to settle on a guy like Charlie Strong. how could this move somehow end up helping UT? Herman is in MENSA so he's smart enough to realize what's going on
if the UT leak to sabotage LSU and Herman works, not only is it one of the more underhanded and fricked up ways to accomplish that goal, it would show an irrationality that is almost insanity for a super intelligent person. i just can't believe this hail mary could work out for UT

I don't think the idea is to sabotage his deal with LSU, I think the idea was to basically get the boosters worked up into a frenzy so they could force the AD to hire him.

They have tons of infighting so level heads might not be at play. I'm still not sure this isn't Herman's agent lighting a fire under Texas.

Key part of the ESPN tidbit was "as early as Saturday". UT booster(s) trying to create a sense of urgency for the AD.

Being that Herman is a Mensa member he thinks logically and critically. I'm sure he knew immediately when the news broke as to who did it. I'd think he's too smart to deal with those booster bullies at UT. The treatment of Strong alone would turn most people off.

I still think this came from Herman's agent, to send a message that Herman wants an offer from Texas by Saturday. I think Strong is fired today and Herman has a UT offer by Saturday.

Maybe Herman told them he has no interest of coaching at UT so they decided to frick it up for everybody. The taking my ball and going home approach.
I think another possibility is it was leaked by someone who wants to KEEP Strong and is making it seem like UT will not be able to get their perceived best option if they fire him.

UT boosters have been worried that they'll let the situation with Charlie linger and either end up keeping him, or wait too long to fire him to get the guy that they want
The boosters want herman. Seems like the administration wants to either keep strong or go get a big name guy. it's a mess, but i fully expect it to work out for them because they're going against joe alleva.

yeah it's hard for me to get into the mind of others but when we get into that level, i can do OK
i get the emotional appeal of UT and the fact that a truly great coach could make them into what Bama currently is, along with the cockiness and confidence that "i am that great of a cocah" and all that
but
on the same token, logically and objectively, it's a fricking shite show and this is like the goddamn bat signal of "shite show" going on. there is no way an intelligent, rational person can look at this UT stuff (as well as their behavior last time) and think that it's workable. the greatest coach of all time saw it and backed out.

The answer is Texas is not acting with any cohesion or rationale and some boosters are in panic mode.
Nobody seems to be on the same page. Not only with hiring Herman, but also figuring out what to do with Strong.
