If Ohio State and Oklahoma can hire first time HC’s, why can’t LSU?

It’s been an unofficial requirement for as long as I can remember and it makes absolutely no sense to artificially reduce your pool of candidates in such a way. Even Vince Lombardi and Bill Walsh were assistants at one point.

Dabo was also a first time HC.

110 percent agree. Extrapolate this even further to bringing in an up and coming offensive coordinator who had never gotten a big break calling plays yet.

Yep. Imagine had Aranda been hired as HC after Miles. Everyone on earth maybe except some O fans can see he has every skill needed to be a head coach. Recruits well, fantastic tactical coach, great with players, etc...

Promoting is a little different. Those guys knew how their predecessors ran things and they’re both young so they’ll try to emulate a lot of that.

I’m for promoting aranda though.

When Les got fired fans wanted a "proven" HC. Now you are saying they don't?

Also true. OP was all on the PJ Fleck bandwagon.

We wanted an x and o’s HC.. to lock up one side of the ball. (Preferably a great college offensive mind)

At least I know I did.

It was funny watching people say O was a better option than up and coming coaches because he had more experience even tho his history is a disaster

Same posters will flame the NFL for recycling the same head coaches over and over again.

People are just more comfortable aiming for the middle I guess

Aranda as head coach would be an experiment i'd be all in on. would be very interesting to see who he'd bring in the run the offense.

No. Lincoln Riley was. Your title implies that this is about Riley at OU and Day at OSU.

Because that is not a belief that your great god emperor athletic director Joe Alleva holds. He doesn't believe LSU is a school that promotes coordinators. He believes LSU is too good for that, and that they should retread previous head coaches.

Almost all of these have the same thing in common...they spent a lot of time at one school and got promoted at that school.

That said, you are right that excluding assistants does limit your pool significantly

I'm pretty sure LSU did hire a first time head coach last time around.

unless you didn't expunge Ole Miss from Orgeron's record like his fans have.

Yeah totally different. The way ou did it was seamless. Way better than the "coach in waiting" drama from a decade ago.

Bama needs to do the same/similiar, unless they just have dabo in the bag now, but saban cant hold on to a coordinator long enough. Good and/or bad sign that is, but still nonetheless none are staying around to fit the promotion option. IF bama gets freeze though, and they get along well, he could fit the bill though.
