when has Malzahn been a head coach? I'd kinda like to see how productive his offense is w/o Newton.

Ranked 16th in the country in total offense last year with Chris Todd at QB.

Auburn ranked 104th in total offense the year before

Their rushing offense improved from 69th in the country to 13th best

Their passing offense improved from 99th in the country to 56th

As far as balance, they rushed for 212 yards and passed for 219 yards a game last year

His offense works. And this is coming from someone who laughed his arse off when he was first hired by Arkansas

$$ and the asst. HC title.

First, LSU isn't hiring a guy who was coaching HS a few years ago. Second, this guy is tied to Auburn and there is dirt on that program right now.

Picking Malzahn to run a top ten program just because he is a decent OC is like buying a TV because you like the box. I don't see anything that says he is ready to run a top program and I seriously doubt any program worth a damn will take that risk.

I've always associated Chizik and Trooper as the recruiting problems over there. And the guy has been as successful as any OC in forever the last four years. Who cares about the high school thing. It initially bothered me, but the guy has shown that he is an amazing offensive mind.

There is no way we could afford another legit head coach for a lot of money and still have the scratch to pay this guy an insane amount.

And Muschamp and Jimbo were two coordinators that are at quite the jobs right now. The day and age of getting high profile guys from top to mid tier programs is not the general rule these days. I don't know why our fans think that LSU is the exception to this when other good schools have been forced to go similar routes. Saban isn't falling into our laps like he did for bama.

The retards on this site cant understand that.
I hear people I know bad mouth Miles and they arent sure why they are doing it.
Its like a snowball that got out of control.
I asked my buddy why he hates Miles so much and who would he replace him with and he had no answer. Neither do 90% of the morons here that post shite about him daily.

I don't want Miles to leave, never have. But I can't sit here and refresh without discussing what could happen.

JPL read his bio . LSU is not known for making the best hires. We passed on spurrier before he went to florida and bowden. Back in the 80's

Spurrier was much more seasoned than Malzahn. Gus will not be LSU's next HC because of two reasons, and one is his inexperience.

If you hire Bo, who I think is a bad hire in the first place, you bring in Carl as well, who only looks good because of guys like Suh and Crick. By doing this, you remove Chavis and Haley, a guy who has done amazing things since being here.

your memory must be a little fuzzy. Bo had the #3 ranked D in the country THREE YEARS STRAIGHT at LSU. Chavis has not. Bo can coach D.

He has always wanted to be a HC and LSU would offer $4 M plus...

Why would any program offer a coordinator 4 million? Not to mention he's only been a coordinator at the college level for five years. And no previous experience outside of high school. Solid coach, but way too much money even for a guy that's had 15 years of college experience prior to his first head job.

With $4M, I would try to lure Sean Payton!

Some people believe being a coordinator qualifies someone to be a HC. Being around a program for a long time qualifies someone to be HC, though being a coordinator is helpful.

There are reasons you don't see any 28 year old college coaches at the elite BCS football level.

I think that has less to do with experience and more to do with trying to be a father figure for players away from home when you're a guy like Major Applewhite and you look like puberty hit you yesterday.

Depends on who is interested. Coordinators can make good coaches but it still is a first time experience for them.

Malzahn may be tremendous someday, but I am just telling you that no elite level (top ten) footabll institution si going to hire a guy who has only been coaching above HS level a few years.

Should Malzahn move it will probably be as Asst. HC and OC.

I hope Miles stays but if he doesn't obviously we have to move fast. I don't think Patterson will come to LSU. He's been offered so many big time jobs and has always turned them down. I personally know Gus Malzhan from when he coached at Shiloh Christian and Springdale High. Normally I would say our AD would be the dumbest idiot in the world to hire a coach five years removed coaching in the high school ranks. However, I think Guz Malzhan is a genuis and would be the perfect hire. This is the type of coach that we could pick up for 2 million with incentive clauses for wins which would allow us some cap room to pay our assistants top money so they don't bail on us. Malzhan would be more than happy to work with the staff we have and stay out of Chavis and his defensive staffs way. Malzhan is an offensive genuis, fits his system he runs around the type of talent he has. I think he is the type of coach that would stay until he retired. He builds strong relationships with high school coaches and as crazy as it sounds since he was coaching high school not long ago, this guy would be the perfect hire. Not only is Gus Malzhan a great coach, he is truly a good human being. We really screwed up not hiring Spurrier and he wanted the LSU job bad. Malzhan is holding out for a top notch job instead of going to a place like Vanderbilt. If Michigan would stop all that "Michigan Man" crap and just hire the best coach, this should be their hire. Malzhan can pick up right where Rich Rod left off on offense but get a DC in there that can line their D out and the Wolverines could win next year without another complete overhaul of the type of players they are trying to bring in. Whoever hires Malzhan will win multiple NC's no doubt in my mind and he will land a big time coaching gig no later than the end of the 2011 season.
