If Fickell is hired and does well...why wouldn't he leave if OSU calls?

Feels like a Roy Williams Kansas type hire IF it happened. Roy was always going to answer a call from UNC.

Fickell has spent his entire life in the Ohio area and is through and through an Ohio State guy. I'd say if he does well enough he could be back at OSU in 6 years of a successful LSU run.

Would you take 4 years of Fickell only to have him depart for Ohio St?

We should definitely steer clear of hiring any highly qualified candidates that may want to work somewhere else at some point.

So you are saying let's not hire someone who would likely be successfull and wanted by other programs? Got it!

Except I never said that. I'm just saying maybe LSU wants to think longterm, especially for guys who have never even come close to the SEC region in their life or coaching career.

Some coaches don’t like leaving championship programs.

He may like it here.

Day may never leave Ohio State.

For OSU to call , Day will call it quits early or starts losingand that don’t seem likely. Ryan day is only 42 yrs old.

But when you coach at Kansas, usually it's a destination, not a pit stop. Roy could have had another 10 year run at Kansas. But that's not the point.

Or Ryan Day could be there the next 15 years. Horrible reason to not hire someone. That said, I don’t think he’s leaving unless it’s to Notre Dame or a Big 10 blue blood.

It's a damn chance you take if he is your #1 option. Day is younger than him and isn't exactly struggling at OSU. Where is he going to go?

Saban had a far more mixed regional background, born and raised in West Virginia, college in Ohio. Then he coached in Michigan, Cleveland, and Houston. There was nothing in his history to suggest he would gravitate to a certain region in his career.

Luke Fickell had 1 season with the Saints over 20 years ago.

Miles was a trash coach, but obviously coached out of his home region at Oklahoma State.

And Williams turned down UNC the first time they called him home.
