I'm not a fan of the Houston/Texas Tech style of offense, especially in the SEC.

I would like to see a more pro-style set, especially considering that we have a QB with more than a year's experience with little evidence that 4 or 5-wide suits him best. There are no other QB's with significant experience, and Jefferson doesn't exactly have the best mechanics and/or ability to look off a defender.

I also want a pro-style offense, but I see some of the benefits of having a spread with the type of athletes we generally recruit. However, I think you can run a lot of the pro set stuff with 3 and 4 receivers like USC and get much of the same effect that the spread creates.

I thought Jag got canned because they learned he never called plays before, college or pro?

What about Charlie Weis? Anyone think he'd get hired as a HC anywhere good? I dont.

Neither does anyone else, but there's a ton of people that think he'll get an OC gig in the NFL.

That said, if he has designs on the NFL and is willing to give up the BC job for it we may want to think twice about it. I think we want someone more committed to the college game.

Well, we'll need someone who can be the QB coach, OC, and Head Coach given the situation. Tall order.

He was talking about from the Bucs.

Yeah he got canned because he was having one of his assistants call plays.

Urban Meyer's Offense will never work in the SEC

-You.

You do realize if you trace the Texas Tech system back it leads to the SEC right?

Leach picked it up at OU from Stoops, who came to OU from UF, and he chose that offense because it was pain in the arse for when Kentucky was running it under Hal Mumme.

false

Leach was Mumme's first OC at Kentucky. This was before Leach ever worked for Stoops.

Stoops hired Mumme away from Kentucky.

Correct I was rethinking that as I left.

Nevertheless point remains the spread offense that has come to be associated with the Big XII came from the SEC since Bob Stoops found it so hard to stop

During his time with the Atlanta Falcons, Jagodzinski learned offensive zone blocking schemes from Alex Gibbs, the architect of successful NFL offensive lines such as the Denver Broncos that won Super Bowl XXXII.

If we could lure him away from other possible HC jobs, I think he would be the best choice. He may be waiting to see what Kelly does at Cincy.

The dude didn't even make it through the pre-season in TB. You want him why?

Jesus christ.

Anyway, Weis will probably be the OC in Kansas City once everything becomes official. Scott Pioli.

And you think they're better off without him? It was obviously some internal turmoil and not actual performance that got him fired.

He was an offensive line coach before being a head coach and we obviously have deficiencies there. Big time recruits will want to play for someone with NFL experience.

Maybe. They have actually been competitive since starting Freeman.

Raheem Morris may not have liked him, but some of the same stuff that eventually got him fired in TB bubbled up after he departed BC.

Blake Miller would be a great hire. He has definitely paid his dues working his way up the food chain. Northwestern State, SMU, Rice, Utah. Former All-SEC center at LSU. Great guy.

He has coached the line in all different kinds of offenses.
