I have a feeling they hire a lesser name to serve the brand. Here is what they need in a coach:

1) He has to appreciate Texas culture in general and specifically Austin. This rules out drastically the field. Raw hide and cowboy boots are a must. Can your guy sport a cowboy hat and boots and do so authentically?

2) He has to be able to heard cats. Texas has more and bigger BMD than any other school. Look at the way this forced retirement has gone. Welcome to your new world. Any takers? Who ever comes in has got to earn the respect of a seriously fractured fan base and GOB network with all the money that the Pope wished he had. Can any US Senators coach football cause it will take that type of skill to make this work.

3) As I just mentioned, there is a requirement that this guy needs to coach some ball. There will be high expectations of immediate success. Now coaches are known for confidence but this is a tall order tex. Good luck finding your guy.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Austin is a hipster town, not a "Texan" town.

Lay off the wacky weed. It is the U of T meaning cruits come from TX. The school is in Austin so that places importance on Politics. The Texas BMD aren't hippies I assure you. Think boots raw hide and longneck beer.

If Charlie Pride could coach football, he would work.

Winning football games relaxes some of those other requirements. They won't find anyone as good as Mack on the PR side.

True but it is going to take a certain type of coach. UT will narrow their search with the right fit in mind.

In terms of real Texas, I think it goes:

1) San Antonio
2) Fort Worth
3) Amarillo
4) Pecos/Odessa/Midland
5) Tyler
6) Austin
7) Houston
8) Dallas
9) College Station/Bryan

The ONLY reason someone would want to live in Pecos/Odessa/Midland is if they had to monitor their oil wells and could afford a private plane to get the frick out of their as often as possible. My wife is from Big Spring, it not only sucks out there it is a long fricking way from even getting to anywhere that doesn't completely suck. Amarillo is even worse, it is as if God literally ironed the place. You can see a 2 story building from Canyon which is 20 miles away. Tyler sucks pretty badly as well but may hold some appeal for SEC types as it feels more like somewhere in BFE Mississippi or Alabama. Can't stand that part of East Texas though, it's where all the hard core Southern Baptists live and they have dry counties and are just strange people.

The best part of Texas is the Hill Country between San Antonio and Austin to the West (Fredericksburg, Wimberly, etc.). Otherwise you want to be somewhere in the triangle of San Antonio, Houston, and DFW though if you like crappy beaches you can live on the coast. It really just depends on what you like in a city as to which of those you like the best.

Oh, and the only cowboys that go to Texas are the fake kind that grew up rich and went out to Daddy's deer lease every so often. The BM folks at Texas are mainly lawyers and businessman from the big cities.
