I think the timing is right for Fickell to make a move.

Day is not leaving OSU anytime soon in all likelihood. PSU just extended Franklin 10 years. MSU just extended Tucker for 10 years. Kelly, while he's on the downhill slope of his career, is not leaving for another 5 years I'd bet.
His stock will never be higher, he could come here and win big. If he comes here and performs to his ability, imagine the reverence that fans will have towards him forever.
I think Fickell is the hire of hires of this coaching search. He's got everything one would want in a head man.
If not Fickell, make Aranda say no.

I agree with this, and pray it's true...

If Woodward is working on either Fickell, Aranda, or Rhule — any of those would be the best possible hire this coaching change cycle.
Unlike others, I’m encouraged by SW/LSU’s silence. It means we don’t have an AD like Alleva who wants the quick hire, but rather the right hire.

He is not leaving with his team on the verge of CFP birth. Not too mention the family ties to Ohio....this is home to him. He will get a pay raise from Cincy. Now I doubt they get into CFP and that may push him to start looking elsewhere. But I can't see him accepting and announcing a new job before CFP announcement next week. If somehow Cincy gets a CFP birth, he won't be leaving till after CFP.

If you're concerned about the early signing day, I'd not be as worried about it as you seem. You need to get the guy first. Not the other way around.

Football coaching is a weird profession to get into if you refuse to leave the borders of your home state for any amount of money. Why not be a mailman?

Timing is just about right for it to have been Fickell all along… seems an announcement on Wednesday would be about right. LSU needs to announce soon regardless of CFP for Fickell and Cincinnati

I mean you can say that but he's not going to sit at Cincinnati forever waiting for a job that may never open.

i'm the biggest fickell supporter as any
he has a son at U of Cincinnati.
he has a daughter that will be a senior in high school next year.
he's got smaller ones galore.
not an impossible move but definitely complicated.

‘Bout time we had some damn faith and a pinch of optimism around here. We all keep thinking we know the candidate pool, but we don’t. We don’t know what Woodward is doing, and at this point that is good. If we did know, I guarantee it would be a fallback.

Cincinnati is joining the big 12 soon. Why would he leave Cincinnati?

Cincinnati is also about to enter the Big 12 which appears to be wide open with the loss of Oklahoma and Texas (though it is not as if Texas has done much over the last decade). To what degree a "weakened" Big 12 can still get a team in the CFP, who knows? But it does allow Fickell, and Ohio guy, to stay in Ohio and still compete in a "power" conference.
Perhaps he sees the path to success and stability at CU vs. the grinder that is the SEC and its HUGE expectations

You don't think the expectations are about to ramp up exponentially once Cincinnati enters the Big XII?

big 12 is about to be a little dog conference.

Also, based on the jobs he's currently supposedly pining for, do you not think there are massive expectations on the coaches there? OSU has just as high of expectations as Alabama. Same with Notre Dame, same with Penn State, same with Oklahoma if he goes there.
The places he supposedly wants to go are also wrought with as much pressure to win and win now as SEC.

....and you would be wrong.
