Who won that in 2019 and is currently unemployed? I mean, that’s a beauty contest.

Ask Matt Canada how portable that award is.

And before any of you start in, I know that situation is as much on O as on Canada, if not more so. He’s still a good example of how great success in one place and time doesn’t always translate to the next. Similarly, I don’t think Gattis would be a good fit here AT ALL.

Michigan fans wanted him fired until a few weeks ago.

Have you watched them play this year? Honestly?

I have evey game, due to my affinity to place a dollar or two on games. They fact that you would want him tells me you really haven't. That offense is not very dynamic. They won't move the ball vs UGA.

Very mediocre when you look at it. Although I guess LSU fans love his intense focus on the ground and pound heavy run game. They love those 9-6 games.

Sometimes that's a function of personnel or lack thereof. A good coordinator builds around the team's strengths.

Wrong. You dont change your playbook yearly just because you have different personnel because that can take you in a bunch of different places and you never get settled into any offense that allows your team to build confidence or identity. Usually you recruit talent to fit a system, and if you're lucky enough you can plan on having good talent that will fit said system. This idea that you "build around the team strengths" indicates, in a way, that you don't know what you're getting from your talent pool that you've personally recruited and trained. Why are you recruiting players that don't fit your system (Les Miles...cough cough)?

The best offenses have a system that's plug and play. If you happen to have some exceptional talents then you can lean on them a little more via playcalling within the system, but a system thats consistent ensures the most consistent success, ESPECIALLY from the quarterbacks and passing game which requires more players to coordinate in sync.

You can't sit on your hands and just hope and pray your players show up year to year like Les Miles, thats stupid. You have to have a specific role for them to embody once they step into the program and you recruit them based on their ability to fill that role. This is exactly how schools like Oklahoma and Alabama churn-out Heisman candidates at the QB position on yearly basis.

If you think Saban just recruits and then tosses them on the field hoping for the best you're sorely mistaken. Everything is planned and schemed to allow the QB to develop within the system.

All I know about him is that they recently hung 40+ on Iowa and Ohio State.

You don’t completely rewrite it but yes it does change. At least it should.

Context man. Iowa hung with them for a half until their D finally wore down from the offense not doing shite. And this was the worst OSU defense in a decade. It was so bad they changed play calling duties around mid-season.
