Im not expecting anyone to come in and beat Saban more than he beats us. I dont think anyone is expecting that realistically.

I am talking about how if you are winning at LSU, you arent dealing with anything besides what the coach wants to do. The past 15 years pretty much proves that a successful coach at LSU can do whatever they want free from the politicians.

What does the coach have to do at LSU while 'kissing the ring' of the politicians?

The title of this thread doesn't make sense to me. If we get jimbo or whoever else besides Herman that doesn't mean it was Texas' leftovers. If Texas fired Strong and we got him this topic title would make much more sense.

And Les not being fired last offseason shows the rewards for coaches who play ball.

Here is your link, as if I really needed to prove politics got involved last year. It's LA for crying out loud, corrupt politicians put their hand in every cookie jar they can.

I knew politics got involved. Ive said that in this thread. I am asking you what Miles did to play ball?

Youve pretty much avoided this kiss the ring and play ball thing. What do the LSU coaches owe these politicians besides winning? You seem pretty confident that one major aspect of the LSU job is to bend over for the politicians but cant specifically say what that is.

This. The thread title makes no sense.

He obviously endeared himself to important politicians in LA that love to have their ego stroked, and in return he got political backing when he needed it.

More links because you need me to spell it out I guess:

quote:

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva seems to be the impetus behind Miles’s potential departure, and the Advocate reports that he had about half of the LSU’s Board of Supervisors on his side. But Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal was not. He’s “close with Miles,” according to the Advocate, and encouraged school officials not to fire him.

LINK

That is not a normal relationship for a head coach, most try to stay apolitical.

But Les knew what he was doing and made sure to kiss the next ring:

quote:

"I think we have a wonderful governor," Miles told reporters gathered in Hoover, Alabama. "I think he's done a great job."

LINK

Again that is completely out of the norm nationally.

This would be the deal breaker for me, and I'm sure this is part of the reason Texas only got Strong. Of course, I still think Texas's problem is more to do with them and not Strong, but that won't stop the administration.

Only got Strong?

Charlie Strong took over a down Louisville team and turned them around in a major way. He was as much of a 'hot prospect' as Tom Herman was, just a few years ago.

Charlie Strong looked like the safest bet in college football when he was hired. His failure is one of the biggest reasons I believe Texas has bigger issues than who the HC is.

South Carolina fans are still salty they got Muschamp because Herman didn't want to touch that mess, i guess.

Oh he obviously did that huh. You think Miles was cool with the governor because he knew the governor would save his job years down the road? LOL. This is Les Miles we are talking about here. The guy is a dunce, but he is a very likable guy and didnt ever seem to make enemies. He is the one coach in the SEC that seemed cool to go have a beer with. I think thats just his personality. Not kissing the ring so his job could be saved later.

Let me ask you this. If the next coach comes in, doesnt kiss the ring, and wins, what happens? Will he be run out of town? Will the governor interfere with his affairs? Nothing?

...but not necessarily in a good way. LSU fans are often ranked on "Worst Fans in Sports" lists. They leave the stadium at halftime, turn on their own players, and are crude and rude. They also have a sense of entitlement, and make the LSU HC position out to be much better than it actually is. Heck, the LSU HC position has only gained prominence over the past decade or so.

Miles played politics for a reason, he is a smart man socially and his awesome recruiting proves that.

Believe what you want but no other coach does that for good reason, they try to stay apolitical because fans can come from either side of the aisle. Here in Texas for example neither UT's coach, A&M's coach nor even the freaking Cowboys coach is pals with the governor or hell even talks about him. 99% of coaches don't and then there is Louisiana. When Mack Brown was at his end the governor didn't come to his aid publically once, the benefits are clear.

You are thinking too quid pro quo.

If he doesn't do well it won't matter. If he has some success early he will be pressured to play along because Louisiana politicians can't stand to not get involved with something local and popular because they are attention whores.

Even if the new guy doesn't want to play ball it's annoying as shite to have to consider those type of requests unless he is a Miles "everyone is my buddy" type (and Herman is not FYI).

While Texas's old billionaire boosters will notice Herman's white skin and give him any blank check he wants without ring kissing.

The Texas admin involvement is overblown. Win games, and all that shite goes away.

Texas is a much better job than LSU. You get to live in Austin instead of Baron Rouge.
