He has a lot of resume padding to do in the next ten years before he would even make a short list.

Gotta bring McElwain or Kirby home. They still have their Tuscaloosa Fantastic Sam's discount cards.

Kirby is where he wants to be. If he's successful, he's there until he retires or is fired whichever comes first. Either way, you can forget Kirby.

I'm sure Jeremy Pruitt has aspirations for it. I wonder if he will be groomed for the job. He's got some resume padding to do as well.

Dabo top 5?

NS
Urbs
Mark Dantonio
Fisher
Dabo

Would these be the top 5? There are others out there but they do not have a history or do they. Harbaugh and Herman? Petrino? I will throw in Gus to appease my AU family.

I imagine they look at top coaches across country with HC and championship (conference or otherwise) level experience.

yep cause that school could make a coach with the talent thats there, look at us, we made miles into what he is.. Sabans players made him a household name..

Hypothetically, If Bama's job is open, it probably means Saban is going to Texas for $10 million/tear.

Who would want to take over directly from Saban?

It's a no win situation

Dabo would be willing i bet, maybe some other coaches who would like to take over a team absolutely stocked with talent at all position.

But I agree a large portion of the current fanbase probably hasn't accepted the fact that Saban is the best ever and that the next coach, no matter how good he is, will be a step down in terms of production.

Saban retires at Bama. he's prepared his family and life after football to take place there, including setting his kids up in his dealership in Bham, moving his mom to a SR community in Bham, etc.

It would be Dabo's job. He's 80-27 there, has won 10+ in 5 straight season, and is 61-12 since 2011. He's proven he's more than just Watson.

Saban recommended that LSU hire Houston Nutt when he left for the Dolphins. I think that Houston Nutt would be a good fit at Bama.

When it opens up, I don't think the Bama job will be as coveted as some might assume. Yes, there are a ton of great reasons to take the job. There's one big negative though, you are following Saban and his ridiculous level of success. Until Saban, every coach that followed Bear Bryant was measured against Bryant. It's human nature. Now, the first guy after Saban will be measured against Saban. Imagine walking into a coaching job where you are EXPECTED to win a national title, at worst, once every 3 years?
