Great points OP. I spent some time with Sonny a few years ago and here is my take. He’s extremely nice, extremely down to earth, and puts his family absolutely first. There are family considerations that would keep him from moving and I’ll leave it at that. Not saying it’s out of the question, but I left that day thinking he was as content as one could be. Doesn’t mean agents won’t play the game, but I would bet he’ll be there a while, or in the general region. He’s not an ego-driven personality. It’s a do what I have to for my family one. JMO

That's definitely the vibe I got watching some of his interviews. Pretty good humor with the media, too.
He seems really, really likable.

Serious question, if you’re Cumbie and you see what just happened to Canada, are you giving your current gig up for here? You said it, he has total autonomy there and great pay.
Let's put it in terms you understand... if you had a chance to get move to another school and be their senior janitor and get $1.00 hour raise but the last guy who had that position was run of because he couldn't get along with the Lead Janitor would you pass on the job? Nope you'd take the raise and opportunity to help support your family! Plus you know NO ONE cleans toilets like you!

You may be dead on.
He went to high school in Snyder which is somewhere between Lubbock and Fort Worth, the only two places he's ever played or coached.
Certainly might take him out of his comfort zone to make a move like this. Maybe that's part of the reason he declined Texas' offer.
Nevertheless, I certainly think he's a guy you should target.

After the 2013 season, Cumbie was hired away by TCU to help run the offense with co-coordinator Doug Meacham. The year before Cumbie and Meacham were hired TCU ranked 109th in the country in total offensive yards.
The two seasons since? TCU finished both years ranked sixth in the nation in the very same statistic. That was good for No. 2 in the country in total offense in that span, not to mention No. 4 in average points per game (44.3). Cumbie's arrival and collaboration with Meacham turned the Frogs from a defensive powerhouse under Gary Patterson to one of the most balanced teams in the country.

I agree with this. Austin seemed too far oddly enough. He should be a target because I think he’s really good and his genuineness comes across. I just don’t think he’s going anywhere. When I say the man was not your typical coach at that level, he was just very normal....and I mean that in the most complimentary way.

That's what I've seen from his interviews. Just a very relaxed, cordial personality. I love how he talks about the game, as well.

Another issue could be keeping him in Baton Rouge if we got him here. With Kliff Kingsbury's uncertain future at Texas Tech, you'd have to imagine that Cumbie would be one of the first calls they make.
However, he has already left his position of offensive coordinator at Texas Tech to take the same job at TCU. So maybe he doesn't see Tech as a destination job or a place he wants to raise his family. Who knows, really.

Cumbie’s offense is more of a gimmick B12 offense, while Meacham’s at least strived for balance. I wouldnt see him as a fit at LSU. But Meacham is probsbly available and looking for a way to gtfo of Kansas

Let me clear something up for anyone throwing out the names of offensive coordinators as if we just get the luxury of choosing.....this Orgeron thing isn’t going to attract top names. He has no business meddling on offense yet he did. Thank god we already had Aranda. Saban is an a-hole yet he can replace his OC every year and still make it to the playoffs. Think about that. They aren’t coming here to glean any coaching wisdom from O. O will hire someone he is connected to. It’s the only reason Briles name is even being mentioned.
With every decision it becomes more apparent that he is who we thought he was. I’ve said this before but anyone who thinks this type of coaching heirarchy is sustainable is kidding themselves. O is not the guy that can afford to keep running off talent. But he will. We are stuck with this guy and more importantly we are stuck with this administration.

A few OCs would make great hires if they get a clause put into their contracts stating that O can't interfere with their offense.
