Tuberville went 8-5 5-7 7-5
Kingsbury hasn't been too far off. He just needs to find a DC. Last year they had major depth issues and lack of experience.

kk has done a decent, not great, job. tech would be foolish to fire him this year. they need to adjust their expectations. it's in the middle of nowhere with marginal academics.

Kingsbury's worst loss in 3 years at Tech was losing on the road to 3-4 West Virginia by 5 on Saturday.
He really hasn't done a bad job. Its tough for TTU in the Big 12 right now.

I'd say he's overpaid, but doing a fair job. He'll look better once Baylor and TCU cycle down.

Not really, kind of the opposite actually. They were at a significant competitive disadvantage when OU and UT ruled the roost but not so much when it's Baylor and TCU. You could say that more mouths to feed in recruiting is bad for for Texas Tech, and that's true, but Baylor and TCU zooming by is on them too. The door was open and they got through not TT.
The conference moved to their style and now damn near everybody does it better.

That's a great point. I'm pretty confident had they not fired Leach he would be sitting where Baylor or TCU is.

well TCU and Waco have a geographical advantage in recruiting and i believe both spend more money on their program
at the end of the day TTech is still out in the middle of nowhere in lubbock away from any major urban area. Waco isn't anything to write home about, but it's still very accessible from dallas, austin, houston, and san antonio. recruiting is all about geography
plus saying you're not as good as briles/patterson isn't some insult

I once lived in San Angelo. I drove to Lubbock one day and got caught in a dust storm. The Tumbleweed got into my car.
Who wants to live in Lubbock, Texas ? Kingsbury is admired and young co-eds probably still look to him as an American Idol. Less population equals less competition for his services. I would think that Tech knows that they are not winning a CFP with their level or recruiting. Therefore, they might as well keep the game exciting by throwing the ball 55 times per game.
Kingsbury has the looks and the girls so I think he would take a paycut to keep his job in West Texas.
I think his popularity will buy him at least two more seasons if the brass decide to get serious about their program. Recruiting may be difficult.

i once had that area for work route. it was an odd town but i grew to like it.

They will give him a long leash. He has a huge buyout and he won't use it as a stepping stone. Defense is (obviously) their main issue and I do think David Gibbs will turn them around once they can build some depth.
Tech is similar to MSU in the SEC. Tough place to play on the road, loyal fans, fully capable of winning 7 or 8 games consistently and jumping up for a big year when the stars align.

The QB Mahomes is only a Sophmore, he'll win Kliff a bunch of games if they can fix the defense.
