Define success as average 9 wins over a 5 year period.

How many potential people are on the planet that could do this job?

Over/under 50.

I say under, about 40 people.

Way over.

Some of the best coaches will never get noticed because of where they started. Football coaching is dominated by nepotism and good ole boy networks at many schools.

SEC has nothing to do with it. Being a head college football coach is beyond difficult, period. How many coaches in other conferences fit that bill?

That’s kind of a broad question. How many people have the potential to average 9 wins? Thousands easily if you include people who are highly successful in other fields under the assumption that they would devote a decade or so to learning the ins and outs of football. I mean I’m sure that the CEO of Apple could probably muster 9 wins a season if he really put his mind to it. As far as current football coaches go? Probably a lot that won’t ever get a chance.

There are a shitload of people on this planet my guy, if thousands of guys have what it takes to make it through Delta Force and CIA CAG selection then there are thousands of people who can coach a college football team to success

Way over 50 . I think a lot of it comes down personality. I would say 20-30 %of the population have the personality. It will take a person who will work what ever hours needed to get the job done . It’s not just the SEC it’s power 5 teams .

Didn’t take a lot to have a winning record this year as bad as the conference is.
There are some shitty teams with winning records like TAMU and LSU.

There are like 7 and a half billion people on earth and you think that only 40 could be good coaches in the SEC?

I'm asking how many are qualified today.

It's a small number. I may be low, but it's not more than 100.

Exactly.

OP begins with a faulty premise that the only people capable of performing the job of college football coach are in coaching.

If Nick Saban wasn't in CFB he'd be some high powered executive type in finance, workaholic and still utterly miserable unless he's working himself to death. That's just the type of person he is. You look in any industry and see the top performers, those are the types that would be good coaching CFB, or anything really. It's in their personality.

So yeah we're talking literally thousands of people that could do the job at a high level.

People in coaching right now that could be successful in the SEC? What's successful, go head to head with Saban?

If we're talking in FBS, I think the number's around 10-15%, but as mentioned earlier, some of those guys will never get a chance.

There are hundreds of people in coaching in every single state that could do it. They will just never get the chance b/c of where they are and who they (don't) know.

There is probably a HS coach within 20 miles of you that could tear shite up but he'll never get the shot b/c "blah blah blah high school coach blah blah blah doesn't know XYZ well enough" crap gets in the way.

When an AD or boosters do their own search they look at people they already know or people somebody they trust know. If they don't do that they hire a firm that looks at coaches who usually have an agent the head of the firm is friendly with.

The whole "qualified" caveat is silly b/c there is no real way to know who actually is due to there only being a few available jobs that hardly ever open up.
