It seems when a HC bombs from a major program he never (?) achieves such a position again. For example, DiNardo will never be HC again at a school like LSU nor DeBose at a school like Bama.

Are there examples of those who did make a full recovery? It may happen in the NFL but rarely in CFB. I suppose Rich Rod may be one example - fired from Meeechigan and has Zona playing well.

Other examples come to mind?

(Admin: move to MSB if the question doesn't belong here)

Lou Holtz essentially fired at Arky but later won NC at Notre Dame.

I wouldn't say he's "fully recovered" yet. He was on the cusp of playing in BCS bowls before his fall.. he's nowhere near winning the Pac 12 at Wazzu.

His story is far from over though

Maybe Cutcliffe, but Neuheisel never really got anything going anywhere. The jury is still out on Leach IMO.

I read the OP as simply asking if a coach was ever fired and got another HC job at that level, again. NOT that they achieved the same success itself.

I was listing those that landed another major level HC job

Other posters have come thru with some good examples but during my lifetime, LSU has been the death nail for many a coach. I wont include Cholly Mac because he overall was a good coach and had a winning season his last year when he was forced out but after Coach Mac, Jerry Stovall never coached again, Mike Archer was never a head coach only an assistant, Hallman a pretty much failure and was realeased from Mussel Shoals AD and Coach and Dinardo with no real success since leaving LSU.

Lane Kiffin will be hired by a Power 5 Conference team after his stay at Alabama.

Yep, and if you're just talking about coaching at another P5 program again, you can also add Houston Nutt.
