id also probably say A&M and Auburn are a 5a and 5b situation. A&M has all of the potential in the world, auburn has actually won in the last 20 years

id group it as, with no order in the groups so dont read into those

bama

florida
lsu
georgia

a&m
auburn

tennessee

who cares

Auburn would be a great job. Hell it’s in the SEC, great rivalries, good resources, fairly easy to recruit and you have the built in Bama excuse. Auburn has won a National Championship and played in another in the last 10 years with 2 different coaches. So what’s not to like?

Idk if you realize this but no matter what that fan base doesn't accept that as an excuse. You cant beat Bama you don't keep your job.

Exactly. Gus made this job hard by being incompetent at roster management and a lazy recruiter. Gus shows that even a moron can win 2/3 of the games at Auburn.

If Auburn pays a buyout to get Cristobal, I will laugh.

Not debatable HG. UGA and UF are far bigger/better schools than LSU in almost every category.

Are we talking academics or football. UGA hasn’t won a national title since Hershel Walker/1980 and LSU has won 4 national titles to UF’s three

LSU has 3 national titles with 3 different coaches since 2003. Add another appearance. WTF has Georgia done besides shite the bed every year? Get off your high horse you haven’t won anything to be talking bad about LSU.

ETA I’m pretty sure LSU has a much better baseball and basketball program than Georgia also.

Auburn is a tough job when Georgia and Bama are recruiting at optimum levels like they are. The coach there is pretty much guaranteed two games in November with top 10 teams. Their schedule maybe the toughest to navigate.

In order to win it all in the playoff era at Auburn, you gotta win vs top 10 Georgia and Bama in November. Beat another top ten team in December SEC championship. Then beat two top 4 teams in playoffs in January. Oh you gotta play SEC West in schedule and somehow be healthy to make that run.

Having to deal with that every year while your two rivals are on an incredible run of recruiting does not seem very attractive to me at all.

You can win a title there and they will pay you/give you whatever resources it takes to do that. So yea, it is an attractive job. AU is in as good of a recruiting location as any place in the nation 1.5 hrs from Atlanta. And Malzahn's 8 years prove that they don't have unrealistic expectations. He got 8 years and top 10 money to only have 2 seasons with 10 or more wins. No other top tier program in the SEC has that kind of patience and average expectations.

Much better than the LSU position before and after the program leveling brought on by incoming NCAA probation

That’s all a good coach cares about when taking a top tier job. Can he compete for and win a title at that school?

Tuberville and Terry Bowden also had undefeated seasons. There’s a pattern at Auburn over the last 40 years. They’ve only had 5 head coaches since 1981, and none had back-to-back losing seasons.

It’s hard to place to consistently win 10+ games, but they never fall off a cliff, and occasionally have a great season.

One of these two schools fired their HC exactly 1 year, 10 months and 17 days after leading his team to the NC game. The other school waited 6 years, 11 months and 5 days after his team’s NC game appearance.

Which was which?
