Let's throw the bank at him. Clearly Johnny Jones is in over his head.

Not watching until JJ is gone. Wish the players the best.

He has been stout.

With that said, the transition from one sport to another might require our patience.

If Memphis, a proven basketball-first program with a huge recruiting base and tons of local support, couldn't get him by throwing a sizeable raise at him, he isn't leaving there for LSU, either. And if you doubt the draw of Memphis over LSU (in hoops only), they were able to take Tubby away from Texas Tech even after Tech offered him more money and basically a lifetime contract to stay.

He is doing the same thing Calipari did at Memphis. He knows he has an airtight job with great benefits where he will win a LOT of games. He is going to ride that until the REAL big fish comes calling. And they will within the next 2-3 years. He has no reason to leave the great setup he's built in Wichita until then.

That would be a lateral move for him.

Marshall is holding out for a blue blood job. Money has never been the issue with him, as the Koch brothers in Wichita have always made sure he has what he needs on that front. When he leaves them, it'll be for Carolina, Duke, Kansas, etc.

Yep. He has turned down better than LSU and more money than he is making because he knows anything else is really lateral until a top 5-10 program comes calling.

Marshall makes $3.3 million a year and is signed through 2022. Johnny makes $1.5m a year and signed through 2019. Plus, Marshall is waiting for a big program to open.

Yeah, people get confused because of football. Wichita State bball is a better gig than LSU. Basketball is their thing, along with baseball.

He got a pretty substantial bump last year after Memphis and I think another school came calling. I didn't realize until Memphis reached out to him that Wichita State had such a big time sugar daddies. Fred Smith and FedEx are no slouch, but they still aren't the Koch bothers.

LSUAD is not gonna shell out the money for a good HC in MBB. We pay JJ a lot less than HC's in the SEC whose teams JJ beats regularly.

I'm pretty sure Memphis' offer was in the same neighborhood. I wasn't sure if Wichita had actually matched it or not. They really tried to lure him with an increased budget for staff, and on recruiting and facilities. The FedEx Forum is a great arena, and the practice facilities are also on par with a lot of P5 programs.

Also, the recruiting here in Memphis is a lot easier. There are several bigtime prospects just one team. Penny Hardaway's East Mustangs are a veritable AAU team and are going to mow the competition down this year. I think the Memphis AD was hoping that this and the potential of a move to the Big 12 would help. Unfortunately, it looks like that is over and done with for a while.

Didn't Alabama make a run at him a few years ago and he turned them down? Of course, going from Wichita State to Alabama hoops would probably be a step down in prestige, even if the money was better.
