Name someone other than Saban in NCAA football that was a homerun hire success. Typically the harder you swing for that HR, the more you actually miss.

i would consider Jimbo a success. Urban was considered a HR for both florida and OSU at the time even though he was G5 at utah. Chris Pederson was considered a HR at Udub, Kirby Smart pretty much was for UGa,
pretty good success rate lol.
but all coaching hires are crap shoots. all of them, just a roll of the dice.

all depends on how you define "homerun hire success"

So Urban and Pederson both smaller school guys prior to the hire. Saban was MSU during it’s failure. When has success at a large university translated to success at another large university? I think the only person you can consider is Jimbo, but that’s not a complete HR.

Bobby Petrino to Arkansas.

Urban Meyer when he went to Ohio St.

Well many on this site claim success as national championships.

Depends upon definition of missing.
If championships are the standard then typically everybody is a miss anyways. Might as well swing big.

Not true…Urban at OSU, Saban at UA, and this year potentially Smart at UGA
It’s LSU, we won’t be happy settling for the fricking Cotton bowl

Exactly! Saban is another great example. The greatest example.
And an established name like those at LSU.. Lookout!
People content with being in the mix every four years or so. Would be nice to be in the mix every season.
Homerun me!

Considering that UGA fired Richt specifically to beat South Carolina to the punch of hiring Kirby Smart, I'd say that he has been a "home run" hire.

But but he wasn’t even a HC! He was only a position coach, and then he was offered a HC job at UGA… pretty big jump right?

People want who they want and they have blinders on imo.

So Cincinnati was on the same level as OU? I guess my point is that you don’t see lateral transfers that equate to success like many on this site claim that will happen.
