Without knowing much about the guy it's hard not to think "if he wasn't good enough for Miami, why would he be for LSU?" Not that fans know anything, but scanning Miami's boards prior to this deal, the consensus was that the LB's sucked under him as well as the defense overall and they were hoping to upgrade. For those excited for the hire, what is your reasoning?

he’s not coming here to be a DC and there’s plenty examples of a fan base wanting someone gone and them leaving to be very successful elsewhere

Baker is a smart guy.

Sometimes you learn more from failure than success. I’m sure he learned a lot from last season. He will bring that knowledge into the coaches room.

He’s been a DC at multiple stops and is coming here to coach LBs. Highly respected as a LB coach and recruiter.

There’s nothing wrong with this hire at all.

Don't care about what another program's message board fans say.

He ran great defenses at LA Tech. Had some success at Miami too prior to this year.

If he is a liability on the recruiting trail he won't be around, long like any O assistant, but other than that he's more than qualified.

Btw this logic is completely thrown out the window when you have Ed Orgeron as head coach

If you dig past what fans (LOL) say and 2020(COVID/odd season) you’ll see it’s a very solid hire for a position coach to say the least. He’s not coming to call plays for our D

Miami's biggest problem is their head coach.

He wasn’t good enough for Miami fans because they got the doors blown off of them by a good North Carolina team. Baker coordinated the 23rd ranked total defense in 2019 and we are only getting him to coach our linebackers. Sounds good to me.

Miami fans also think Manny Diaz is a good defensive coach...

I can't help but think of Studwra, who is an excellent OL coach. Not so much OC.

I'm not saying it is, but it just might be a similar situation with Baker. The DC role just took too much away from the position coach role, and it showed.

However, that admittedly doesn't explain away recruiting deficiencies. But recruiting has a lot of moving parts and while you can point to the position coach for issues there. You can't always put it on him 100%. There's area recruiters, recruiting coordinators who assign a different priority/value to your guys, and a HC who might overrule you on alot.

You are as dumb and miserable as the people who voted for Biden! Here’s to hoping LSU D wrecks shop next year. Doesn’t matter who they hire you would post some miserable BS that you know not one damn thing about. I’m not saying I know what makes a good defensive coach but damn why don’t you give them a chance? If they fail then say I told you so otherwise how bout you support the incoming staff? What if they were being held back and now they are in the right situation. Hell no one would of dream Coach O would of won the NC when he was hired but he did and I have a feeling he just might do it again...GEAUX TIGERS!!!

He might have been on his way out, of which I have never heard. If this is true, Diaz took his play calling duties away from him because he is indeed grasping at straws and "had" to make a move. Miami's defense was pretty lights out in 19'. I agree as well, the OP is way off because we are not bringing him in as the DC. We just went and got a DC to be our LB coach. Went get a NFL DL coach to be our DL coach. Can any of you NegiTigers ever see the glass half full? Jesus H. Christ y'all are miserable individuals!!!
