He isn't my first choice, but if Jimbo Fisher is the hire...

...the thing to remember is that Jimbo Fisher would be, BY FAR, the most accomplished coach LSU will have ever hired in the modern history of its program.

He's won a national championship, he's won conference championships. He's won 77 percent of his games as a head coach. His 2013 Florida State team was one of the best ever to take the field, much like our 2019 team.

Currently you'd have to say that either Nick Saban or Bo Rein had the best resumes of all the coaches hired by LSU in the past half-century or so. And Saban had been essentially a 6-5 coach at Michigan State until that breakout season in 1999. His resume was the best largely on the strength of his having been Belichik's defensive coordinator at Cleveland and a 9-2 season as head coach at Toledo, which meant going 9-2 in that one year at Michigan State was probably more indicative of who he was as a coach than the 6-5's before that.

We've never hired a coach who had won a championship of any kind as a head coach prior to coming to LSU. Fisher has multiple conference titles under his belt.

Again, I'm not all that excited about this hire. I can get excited about Lincoln Riley, and there are a bunch of coaches out there nobody's talking about who would be a good bit like the Jay Johnson hire in baseball.

But if you consider the truly meager resumes of the coaches we've hired over the years and the success they've nonetheless had here, you really can't melt if it's Fisher. He's a top-tier hire; the only question on him is whether he's burned out and that isn't really in evidence at the moment.

Which is why Woodward would hire him, and more than likely already has.

I don't like it, but I think that's the case.

He'll win a Natty here within 3 years, I think other coaches would probably do the same though.

Im trying to see it, I really am. But I think a lot of people including myself wants an “up and coming” young coach.... You could make an argument for both sides

I want Aranda, but I think it will be Petersen or Fisher just based on Woodward's past history.

Look, if it's up to me I'm looking at the coaches the NFL teams are looking at to fill their vacancies and seeing if I can grab one of the top ones before the teams in the league can. Or I'm looking at a guy like Dave Clawson at Wake Forest or Fickell or Matt Campbell (though losing to West Virginia is a BAD loss today), or even Sonny Dykes at SMU who has the best-looking offense in all of college football right now.

But Jimbo Fisher is the coach we bitch about because he only goes 9-4 or 10-3 and doesn't win the West that year. Then the next year he's in the playoffs. We're back relevant immediately with him even if he gives off a Paul Mainieri vibe.

Not exciting at all. Will be 57, and offense hasn’t really adapted. Not to many Sabans that coach at a high level until damn near 79. If it’s him so be it. But, would much rather hire a coach in his 40’s that will be here for ten years or longer. We all know why he left Florida State, its a dumpster fire. Improved some during the covid year at A&M. Not sure give me Aranda, Franklin, Tucker, Napier, hell even Kiffin first. Might be not as proven, but the potential with those guys are higher to me..

You can't say you'd rather have James Franklin, who just got beat by Illinois last week, than Jimbo.

That doesn't make much sense.

I'm not even dumping on Franklin. But there is no comparison between his resume and Jimbo's.

When Jimbo was his offensive coordinator, yes.

No other candidate's resume compares to Jimbo if we're being honest. But for some reason resume goes out of the window when it comes to Jimbo.

People still have the red-arse that he turned us down when Miles was fired.

But it should be remembered that the ask was that he'd have to work for Joe Alleva at the time. Even given that he was looking to get out of Tallahassee, would you really want to work for Alleva?

I can't really blame him for that at the end of the day.

It’s just an opinion. I mean Jimbo lost to Mississippi state. Do I think Franklin is a better coach, probably not. Just would be exciting to have someone who hasn’t been here, or been talked about 1000 times about getting the job..

2019 LSU would mud stomp that FSU team, kidding me?

Anyways, carry on

I’d prefer we go in a different direction than Jimbo personally, but I got nothing to disagree with your point. You are correct.

Im not a huge Jimbo fan but I don't hate him. What I do hate is how much he would cost us. He's going to want at least $12 million/year for like 8 years. And Jumbo simply isn't worth that much money.

If I'm wrong and he is, in fact, worth it, you give him a new contract! Problem with big contracts out the gate is that you are stuck with the hire. People bitched about Orgeron's $17 million buyout - buying out a Jumbo with 4 years would cost $50 fricking million.
