Think they could be more than that given the lack of top shelf teams in the big 12 North. Nebraska is the closest thing to that, but the O is terrible.

2 Sources have told 610 Sports Radio that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, Stanford Coach Jim Harbaugh will fly to Lawrence following Saturday's Heisman Trophy Ceremony to accept the deal to be the new Kansas Head Coach. He's expected to have an annual salary of $2.7 million a year. In a statement, KU Athletic Director Lew Perkins said that the process is "ongoing" and "We have not offered the Head Coaching position to anyone." LAWRENCE, KAN. - Amid rumors that Kansas was negotiating a deal with Stanford football coach Jim Harbaugh, athletic director Lew Perkins said Friday the job had not been offered.

Perkins has been interviewing candidates to replace Mark Mangino, who resigned under pressure after an internal investigation into his treatment of players. He's known to have talked to Buffalo coach Turner Gill and Mississippi coach Houston Nutt. Nutt later thanked Kansas for its interest but said he planned to stay put.

Perkins issued a statement Friday afternoon insisting he would not comment on unsubstantiated reports. He added, "Having said that, I will reiterate at this time that the process is ongoing. We have not offered the head coaching position to anyone."

A spokesman declined to answer when asked if Perkins was negotiating with Harbaugh or anyone else.

Stanford offered Harbaugh a contract extension a year ago and he still hasn't signed it.

Harbaugh's salary this season was $750,000 and Mangino was paid $2.3 million, so he stands to more than double his salary. A factor that may play into any decision regarding Harbaugh is that one of Harbaugh's Stanford players, Toby Gerhart, is up for the Heisman trophy Saturday night.

The thinking is Harbaugh doesn't want to take away attention from Gerhart.

God I hope this is true (the bold print), and he does wind up signing with KU.

Those who say he should stay at Stanford are wrong- what if the team falls back to mediocre next year? Then suddenly he has zero offers- with the Kansas job he gets the $$ now, and if he brings them back to compete w/ Nebraska & the rest of the Big 12, then he maintains the level of being one of the top commodities in the country, for whatever future jobs open up...

Harbaugh has four children: Jay (20) (a freshman at Oregon State University and a student intern for the Oregon State Beavers football team[8]); another son, James, Jr. (13); and two daughters, Grace (9) and Addison (1). His brother John is the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens and his brother-in-law, Tom Crean, is head coach of the Indiana University men's basketball team.
