And if they weren't willing to pay the buyout then Kelly would still be the coach. His firing wouldn't have happened before the financing was secured.

Agreed.

Not justifying the media circus - but I've "heard" Landry isn't happy about the budgetary situation unfolding at USL. The two situations piggybacking one another ain't good

If you're the best, you shouldn't have to worry, you say guess what? I'm putting my reputation on the line and when I win, this is how much money I want."

Great so now we’re limited to finding an up and comer. No established coach is taking a provisional contract

What was wrong?

LSU raised ticket prices for a shite product. Jeff is right.

quote:

Landry said emphatically Wednesday at a press conference that he does not want LSU athletic director Scott Woodward hiring the next coach. That’s because of what he called a “terrible” contract that features $52.3 million buyout LSU owes Kelly, who was fired without cause with more than six years left on a 10-year, $100 million pact.

Also, accurate.

Boosters paid BK’s buyout, not the taxpayers

Its in the contract that it will be paid. If not by a booster than by who?

So boosters don't pay taxes?...... interesting

I'm sure you understand the difference between booster voluntarily using their own money to pay the buyout vs. the state using money from state coffers to pay the buyout.

Or maybe you don't...

If LSU didn't have the money through ticket sales and donations, it would come from the taxpayers.

If LSU is unable to secure these funds, the responsibility for payment would fall on LSU, which is a state entity under the governance of the Board of Supervisors of LSU. As such, the state of Louisiana and its taxpayers would be responsible for ensuring LSU fulfills its contractual obligations.

Nobody has paid anything, yet. If Kelly’s buyout has not been renegotiated by the time the 1st installment is due, it’s ultimately the responsibility of the State taxpayers.

The installments represent about $10MM in year 1 post termination, offset by any ‘Football Income’ earned during by that period.
