Wait what? I am on multiple Auburn boards, and I’ve never seen anyone say that.

Speculation it COULD be today, but nothing definitive like that. Most have said Sunday this entire time.

I’d be surprised if AU hasnt made an informal offer to Lane (or someone else) at this point.

I think they absolutely have been negotiating with Lane, and the plan was to formally offer today, but I think the last two weeks have taken the leverage/power out of Kiffin/Sexton’s hands and now AU is walking it back.

I still think it’ll be Kiffin. I think there is someone like a Fickle, Day or Dabo (puke) that may be nibbling that they are making sure says ‘no’ before offering Kiffin formerly.

Fickle, Day or Dabo

All due respect, but why would Day leave the top team in the B1G to go to about the 5th team in SEC? Why would Dabo leave top team in ACC where he is a legend making $10m/year to go to his alma mater’s in state rival?

Fickle may be a possibility, but I think most anticipate he’s holding out for ND or a B1G job.

If it’s not Lane or Freeze, it’ll be a tier 3 guy. You aren’t going from tier 2 back up to tier 1

I never said any of those would leave, but there has been communication with them (at least Fickel and Dabo). It’s probably just to get a raise at their current school.

My point is now it seems it’s gone from 100% Kiffin, to ‘“let’s make sure we aren’t leaving something on the table” before offering Kiffin.

And Auburn is not the ‘5th team in the west’ to a coach. It’s a top 2-3 gig in the west, and with the coming s Saban retirement (or at least the perspective of it) it could solidify into a top gig. Coaches are perceptive of that. Again, not saying a Ryan Day would leave his job, but at least make him say “I’m good”

I was hearing about him going to Nebraska. But the way his team played against Tulane must have been a downgrade for the Nebraska HC job. Tulane HC would be a much better hire for Auburn.

It’s like LSU 2016.
We fire Miles and get our rah rah guy to be Interim HC. We strike out on Herman and Jimbo so we settle for the rah rah interim guy.
Get ready for Head Coach Caddy, Aubie.

That will not happen.

Our NIL is booming, just opened the newest and shiniest football facility, AD who’s ready to pay, and a Saban in the 4th quarter of his career.

If we end up with Cadillac or a google Coach, that would be seriously disappointing.

I'd root for Bama tomorrow then. Because Caddy leading Auburn to a win tomorrow will make it extremely hard for the AD to pass him over when fan support would be 100% behind him.

That’s the reason why the Kiffin stuff was so strong - trying to avoid that situation. But it doesn’t matter, Cadillac will not be the coach. He’s said he’s not ready for a program like Auburn. It’s not gonna happen

Holy shite the stupidity. Read. My. fricking. Posts.

I never said thats who we’d get. I’m saying now that Lane is not as shiny, they are going to make sure the unicorns aren’t a possibility first before offering him.

fricks sake

That’s not what I said. I said 5th best team in SEC. I could argue very easily it’s not that for long. You’re behind Bama, UGA, LSU, Tennessee. Maybe behind Florida. Case could be made A&M is a more desirable job. Easy case that Texas and Oklahoma are better jobs. Once they join the conference, AU will be middle of pack SEC job (somewhere in that 7-8 rank). Gonna be hard to get a tier 1 guy to sign up for that.

Freeze would be the best hire, IMO. Anyone other than Freeze or Kiffin and you’d have to admit you’re on your 3rd or worse choice.

Based on their own blue print, we will not be behind UT or LSU as long as we get the right hire. Those teams were terrible last year

Yeah, those teams have been the cream of the crop or hiring coaches recently. So joining the sec will make it better??! What?

Sounds like we haven’t offered Kiffin and not interviewed freeze. So quite patently it’s not the third choice - (and thank god)

Day? Dabo? Dude, that’s seriously hilarious that they would even take a call from auburn. They wouldn’t go there even if they were fired.
