posted in another thread, but wanted to point this out...In the end I think SFP said it best, Franklin would be just good enough to not get fired, not good enough to make the playoffs and compete.

You will get an 11-2 type season with a shite ton of mediocrity sprinkled in and really he has never lost less than 2 games, never made the playoffs.

Before moorehead-
2014- 7-6 20.6 ppg
2015- 7-6 23.2ppg

Since moorehead left, he is

2018- 9-4 33.8 ppg
2019- 11-2 35.8 ppg
2020- 4-5- 29.8ppg
2021- currently 5-2 and staring at more losses coming up. 26.9ppg

downward trend since moorehead left

moorehead was there-
2016-11-3 37.6 ppg +84.2ypg
2017- 11-2 41.1 ppg +111.9ypg over 2015

these were huge improvements over previous years and the years since.

Franklin is mediocre as frick without moorehead. His record at PSU without moorehead is 43-25. the further away he gets from moorehead, the closer his offense returns to the mean.

Franklin at Vandy
2011- 6-7 26.7ppg
2012- 9-4 30ppg
2013- 9-4 30.1ppg

so lets see, franklin-

w/o Moorehead- 67-40 (36-35 in conference) 28.54ppg

w moorehead- 22-5 (15-3 in conference) 39.35ppg

so was it moorehead's offsense getting Pstate going or was it franklin? sure looks like Franklin is mediocre as frick without moorehead and you are seeing that more and more this year and seems the further they get from mooreheads influence the closer he gets to returning to the mean.

#ANYONEBUTFRANKLIN!!!

#FRANKLIN+MEDICORITY!!!

Most (including me) think Riley would be a homerun hire. He's never lost less than 2 games and plays in a much easier conference.

Yeah, I know a few of those losses were in the playoffs, but still.

16 and 17 were Saquon’s last two seasons also, he had 1900 total yards and 20+ touchdowns both years. Generational RBs don’t exactly grow on trees.

That’s the problem with hiring a coach that doesn’t call the plays or at least have recent experience calling the plays

Leaves you wondering.

I want an offensive coach that calls the plays and we know definitively that we’re locking down that side of the ball

go look at teams where moorehead has been OC and get back to me

and generational QBs dont either but we are not letting O slide for not having the next Joey B are we?

i agree. and i think if going the CEO route, i would rather Cristoball, he has hiring ceiling Imo

essentially that leaves

on offense-

Riley
Kiffin
Campbell
Napier
Fleck(maybe??)

on defense-
Aranda
Fickel

absolutely. JF has struggled to replace good players big time especially since moorehead left.

It’s funny. Moorehead wasn’t the OC in 2019 or ‘18, it was Ricky Rahne.

He had his best season with Rahne and a Co-OC. 11-2.. 41 ppg. Went 9-4 in ‘18 and averaged 34 PPG.

2018- 9-4 33.8 ppg
2019- 11-2 35.8 ppg

You are right, that was 2017. In ‘19 they were still top
15, per football reference.

Point was, before Moorehead they were horrible, after Moorehead....further they get from him, worse the offense gets.

The stats are pretty damn clear. Without Moorehead he is 36-35 in conference and will be .500 after this weekend.

That shite sucks, I don't want a coach that is 500 in conference unless he gets an amazing OC, that's exactly what O was.

I’m gonna try real hard not to flood the board, but I will completely melt if it’s Franklin. For the same reasons stated above. We’ve seen enough of that sh*te. Bad fit.

LSU has had success on defense under countless DC’s. Lock down the offensive side of the ball and shoot for DC hires with an emphasis on developing & recruiting LBs. There will never be a lack of DL / secondary talent in LA. If the offense is consistent, I’d bet money we fare better than vice versa.

No logic says Moorehead is a really good OC just like he proving at Oregon.

Logic also says James Franklin will be 36-36 after this weekend in conference when he doesn't have him to save his arse.

Interesting analysis! Factoring at least a significant part of a coach's success, well done.

Building the whole system (ie, Saban built future all star staffs, university invested in program, developed NFL players, that then generated success begetting success via recruiting, National notariety, etc. vs. just fly by parts (a few great players) or fleeting recruiting classes that don't hold up, develop, etc.).

Need to filter the fakes! Nice insights.

1. Using the Vandy numbers to prove anything besides he’s a ducking amazing coach is dumb.

9-4 at Vandy is 18-0 at any other school. It doesn’t happen.

2. He was rebuilding a program his first 2 years at Oenn Stat.

So you have 2 good years with Moorehead.
2 good years after Moorehead.

And then 2 bad years. Of course you are giving him a lot of loses before they happen.
