Meyer and Kelly would both have a lot of adjustments to make in both demeanor and scheme to make it in the NFL. I think both have good enough football minds for the former but have dark enough souls to fail completely with the latter. Similar to Schiano.

ND is a big dollar college team. They don't have to release the coach's salary because they're private, but they'll pony up to keep Kelly if they want to.

That was his point. There’s no incentive to pay BK more right now because there’s no threat of him leaving to a similar paying college coaching job. So the agent floats the NFL rumor to get ND to pay Kelly more.

ND can’t fire Kelly right now. (I mean, I think he's never gonna get ND to where we want/need to be, and he should've been let go in the past, but you "can't" fire someone directly following a 12-1 season.) But ND should be in an outstanding position to make a hire if he threatens to go elsewhere. If he wants to threaten that, we shouldn't try to stop him or give in to his contract demands. (And, of course, the agent is bluffing anyways. But even if he wasn't bluffing, we shouldn't stop BK from going.)
