I'm not real sure why we would hire someone that has never officially called a single play before in his coaching career.

Do you think that everyone who is currently an OC started their coaching career as an OC?

In my opinion, it would be a great hire for two reasons:

1) He's a fantastic recruiter

2) Any other coach in college football could call better plays and run an offense better than Crowton.

But then again, it's just a rumor anyway.

Will you go on record as saying you'd rather keep Crowton than hire this guy? Based on your logic, since Crowton has officially called plays before, he's naturally better. Forget about player development, game planning, or recruting...

I think you're jumping the gun. He is not the OC at LSU yet.

And yes, I would rather have Crowton than an unknown, although it's not an A or B choice as you make it out to be. There are plenty of other options.

IMO, LSU doesn't have to hire anyone with no coordinator experience (or QB coach experience for that matter). I don't expect us to be able to go out and get the absolute "best coordinator" in the country, but I do think we don't have to worry about hiring rookie coordinators.

Like I said, though, we're jumping the gun, because Gary Crowton is our OC as of this moment. And regardless of whether my opinion turns out to be right or wrong, I am hopeful that whoever is LSU's OC gets everything turned around in 2010, and whoever is the OC in 2010 I will be rooting for.

Stud to OC. Gonzales QB coach. Stud OC offenses at Bowling Green put up points. Gonzalez coached at Bowling Green. ???? Just guessing here.

Studs Bio:Coaching Experience
1989-90 Cincinnati (assistant offensive line)
1991-96 Wilmington (offensive coordinator)
1997 Ohio State (graduate assistant – offense)
1998-2000 Arkansas State (offensive line)
2001-06 Bowling Green (offensive line, 2001-02; offensive
coordinator/offensive line, 2003-05; assistant head coach/offensive coordinator, 2006)
2007 LSU (offensive line)

Billy Gonzales
Coaching Experience:
2005-Present Florida (Wide Receivers)
2003-04 Utah (Special Teams Coordinator/Wide Receivers)
2002 Bowling Green (Co-Recruiting Coordinator/Wide Receivers)
2001 Bowling Green (Wide Receivers)

Thx. Seems very plausible. They coached together and Stud may have pushed Miles onto him.

It amazes me that ppl will argue with "you" about what can and cannot be shared on TD from another site.

if gonzales is on staff, that makes for a helluva offensive staff in terms of recruiting.

Yano being the godfather, of course.

Some of the Florida boards are saying that Gonzalez is gone to LSU as OC as well.

I like this more than Kragthorpe or Crowton. Now it's time for a QB coach and a new O-line guy. I guess this means that the last Don will leave unless Joe Robinson gets a job coaching special teams in the NFL.

He could always coach special teams. I think Joe Rob got some NFL interviews last year.

Yano's TE coaching will be instrumental in the Mitch Joseph shovel pass

If he brings the "UF spread", I will be a happy man. That offense is known for getting the ball to playmakers. Something we lack in.

Is this the Scout.com "FG Flash: Huge Coaching Change here (It is done)" thread?

If this hire happens, I don't know how good it will be but I'm probably more excited about it than any other possibility.
