Every single one. The hire may not look good now, but i have no doubt he will succeed greatly with the recruits he will be able to bag. It may be a little risky, but florida should have leverage when it comes to the terms of the contract. No way he gets a big time buy out clause or top pay (don't know what he pay is). It's basically a win win for florida. He is widley considered the best up and comer in college football. If it works out, florida found their bob stoops, if it doesn't and he turns out like zook, they can cut stings without a big ball and chain tying them down. He is Young, energetic and intense. And florida will not have a problem with recruiting. Chizic may not have been a assistant, but everyone was sure that it was a horrible hire at the time, even me.

Just think of what WM could do with the players we have

After all, if he is good enough to be head coach in waiting at texas, he should be good enough for any school.

Saban was just another coach before he came to louisiana state. The rest is history.

Being an assistant is much different than being a head coach. UF is one of the premiere jobs in the nation, this is a stretch.

May work out, may not.

this hire will be a disaster. Gone after 1 or 2 years at max.

Every coach WAS an assistant. Then they became a HC at Kent St. or something, not friggin UF! Then they move UP to like Minnesota or something. THEN, if they do an amazing job, they get to be a coach at a real program.

Hey, he may wind up being great...but if I had to bet, I'd say he AND Foley are out in a couple of years.

The same was said at LSU about Saban, Miles
The same was said at Auburn about Chizik
The same was said at Florida about Urban Meyer
The same was said at Florida about Steve Spurrier
The same was said at Ohio State about Tressel

And the list................ goes on and on and on

And every single one of those had head coaching experience. All but Chizik had very successful head coaching resumes.

Turner Gill, Derek Dooley and Larry Porter were not coordinators. (Not sure what you meant by assistant)

He was "just another coach"? Sure about that? He had quality experience in the NFL, and more critical, he had 70 games of head coaching experience and 6 years of running a college program as the head guy. He had beaten superior teams like Michigan and Notre Dame. I watched him while he was there, and was thrilled when LSU nabbed him.

I guarantee that Saban would tell you he was far better prepared to handle the rigors of the LSU as a result of his prior 6 years of head coaching experience. Had he not had those years of experience (learning and making mistakes at Toledo and Michigan State), he would have made those gaffes at LSU and may not have achieved the level of success that he did.

This hire is an unnecessary gamble. Florida needs to hope Muschamp can navigate the learning curve of being a head coach. And the lights will be shining on him brightly.

Where was Jimbo Fisher head coach before he took over FSU?

The same was said at LSU about Saban, Miles- both had head coaching experience
The same was said at Auburn about Chizik- had head coaching experience The same was said at Florida about Urban Meyer- won a BCS game as a head coach before Fla The same was said at Florida about Steve Spurrier- had head coaching experience before Fla The same was said at Ohio State about Tressel- won a couple of national championships as a head coach in D-1AA before Ohio State

Your examples are awful. You would be better served to use Bob Stoops, Mark Richt, Dan Mullen, Phillip Fulmer, and Tommy Tuberville- they went straight from being a coordinator to a head job

Not sure about your point? This was his first year has a head coach and went 9-4. Meh. Charlie Weis went 10-2 in his first year. Didn't pan out so well.

Wake me up when Jimbo Fisher achieves the level of success of Saban, Carroll, Brown, Tressel, Meyer, etc all of whom had prior head coaching experience.

It goes both ways. Jimbo still has a lot to prove, true. But there are a number of coaches who have been successful without having been a head coach prior to being hired, just as there are a number who built reputations at smaller schools only to be unsuccessful at larger programs, ie Dan Hawkins.

No they aren't. I was saying that all of those names that I mentioned were all being doubted when they were hired either on this board or on most others about how they would fail, which are the same comments being said about Muschamp. I never said it had or didn't have anything to do with if they had been a Head Coach prior.

So what was your point again?
Muschamp has never been a head coach

Those examples were terrible.
