What I really like about Chavis as DC, is that he may not be one of the really great DCs out there

Then who are the really great ones out there? Chavis is reverred by other coaches as one of the best, has won big time in the SEC and a BCS, and is worshiped by Tennessee fans even though the program has slid. Who is a better and proven DC?

What has he been dong since the NFL? Does he have coaching experience?

He sat out 2007 with a knee injury. He failed two physicals in the late winter/spring, and ultimately the Steelers didn't sign him.
I don't think he's doing anything, except maybe trying to rehab well enough to sign one more contract. He's only 31.

Exactly..Chavis is a class act and will recruit well also
Tenuta as we need to remind ourselves, doesn't like to recruit..Of course between Miles and Coach O, who needs anyone else to close?
we ain't hurtin this class.. HOw much better will we be with O ? Lord have mercy!

Just kidding. Hope you're buddy is on the mark. I hope Coach O is in the mix. I would like the added recruiting punch. Might help build a stronger fence around the state.

It's fun to speculate with the rumors
We have a pretty solid source here that was dead on money that Miles was staying put at LSU when everyone else just knew he was going to Michigan.
This source says that Coach O deal is almost done to LSU.. That was about a week ago.
we are offering Coach O (supposedly) DL, RC and Asst HC with some nice jack! No numbers posted, but perhaps more than the DC will make? Additionally, his family doesn't want to leave LA again, and Coach O as a player always wanted to play for LSU, so I think we have advantage of getting him on board with these intangibles.
Bo Pelini reportedly made close to 750K his last year at LSU (bowl bonuses?)

I guess we will know soon enough, all we can do is speculate.
If it's all about the money he will probably be at TN, but if his family wants to stay and he loves LA like people have said he will be at LSU.

Why do you suppose that Tennessee can outbid LSU?
LSU if you recall has led the nation in paying HC and assistants top dollar . Thanks in part to Jimmy Sexton
