It kind of makes sense looking at his bio.

Elston is going to hurt. We really needed him for the recruiting. Freeman I never expected to come but I figured we might at least get Elston. I wonder if they gave him the DC job?

Can't really blame these guys for staying but you have to wonder if BK's reputation has anything to do with these guys staying. He's known for being rather abrasive so he's probably hard to work with I'd imagine.

Hadn't Elston worked with Kelly at multiple places?

I think this is more about these coaches feeling like they have something special going on this year and not wanting to jeopardize it right now.

Lot of these guys will stay on with Freeman. If it were an outside hire for HC they’d prob be more inclined to come to lsu

And yes Elston to DC makes sense

I think we’re reading too much into some of this. Staff of the previous head coach often don’t have the choice of staying like this. It’s either jump with the guy you know or you may be forced out and have to find another gig. They all have the option to stay at a good program. Elston is probably getting a promotion. Reece is as ND as a guy can get. I don’t think we should take this too hard.

It's pretty important for them to maintain veteran assistants for 35 yr old 1st team HC and especially if they keep the 30 yr old OC. And it's not like ND can't pony up the bucks to keep them knowing how much it's needed.

Yes, has been with him since Central Michigan.

Exactly.

People who think that the new staff will be announced shortly are off the mark and will be subject to much anxiety and teeth gnashing.

1. LSU has a full compliment of coaches (11) under contract. The 10 assistants will be recruiting for LSU for ESD and preparing the team for any bowl game. Do not expect any changes to be made to the coaching staff until after the bowl season.

2. Typically, assistant coach hiring season begins after the majority of the bowl games have been played until after the second NSD. With most of the activity from early January thru the beginning of the January contact period.

3. The vast majority of Assistant coaches that have bowl prep coming in December for their current employer will not be making moves or desire for the info of them leaving to leak until after the bowl game has been played.

That's good insight.

I think, as a fanbase, we're just so used to being super reliant on coordinators and position coaches that it's hard to not feel anxiety about the uncertainty.

why? If these guys are getting promotions it says nothing negative about kelly or lsu. It says ND was pretty damned please with Kelly's hiring choices...which bodes well for us.

Unfortunately, this is 110% correct.

There was a report pretty quickly after we hired BK that their AD was moving quickly to get promotions and raises taken care of for remaining staff to keep them intact. I think they wanted to move Freeman up to HC and Elston to DC and just try to maintain everything Kelly was doing without him there to run it.

Hope it works for them. Don't blame those guys for staying, but now Elston and Rees and others are hitching their wagon to the first-time HC with a load of pressure on him to follow the winningest coach in school history. Roll of the dice for all of them, for sure.
