How the frick are they going to afford his buyout? Their athletic department has LOST money for 3 straight years.
Eta: I assume his buyout isn't much, but anything is a lot when you are losing money.

Elloss needs to be fired and a new coach appointed so MAYBE, POSSIBLY a portion of our recruiting class can be salvaged.
The fact that they are waiting and actually thinking about their options is retarded.

Just talked to a guy that goes to Southern and I know its not a credible source and have no links, so take it for what it's worth.
He said that they were told Johnson was going to stay as of now and they will be evaluating the other coaches. Some fans believe its because of how Lucas and Johnson are buddies.
Like I said, you can take it with a grain of salt, just passing along what he said from the school.

To hire a coach that would excite the fanbase. They went 12-2 last year (better than any year under Bower), so I'd say it was a pretty good decision.

Good question. I think his buyout is $700k for each year remaining if he is not fired for cause. I think three years remain on his contract, so $2.1 million will likely prevent USM from being able to raise enough money to buy him out.

While this is the first losing season for USM in 19 years, football is not that important to their fans. It certainly doesn't compare to Bama. I wouldn't expect them to raise a ton of money because the average fans don't care enough and there is no large supply of big money donors.
