ECU has hired the wrong ex-Texas Tech coach

A 5 p.m. Board of Trustees meeting will confirm the hiring made by ECU athletic director Terry Holland.
McNeill, 51, replaces coach Skip Holtz, who left the ECU program last week to become the new head coach at South Florida.
McNeill, an ECU alum, most recently served as Texas Tech’s defensive coordinator.
He beat out Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, who was Holland’s other finalist. Wilson interviewed with Holland in Greenville, N.C., Wednesday night.

I don't understand the love for McNeill as a HC. His defenses were mediocre at best. This season was probably his best and they were ranked somewhere in the 40s.
I know he's a swell guy but that doesn't make him a legit HC candidate.

He called a great game in the Alamo Bowl, that's why he got all the run. Time will tell if that was an abberation or not.

It is another black coach. They've got to at least be somewhat pleased with the number of new black head coaches this offseason.

I think by "they" he was referring to whoever it is that throws a fuss anytime any job goes to any person other than a minority. So, they must be somewhat pleased.

Good hire. Players loved him at tech, showed great head coaching qualities in the Alamo bowl. Good pick up for ECU.

They = the people that insist on "fairness" and "equality" and intentionally avoid strictly defining what either of those constitute so they can raise "awareness" (another intentionally vague term) for the plight of coaches who are unfortunate enough not to be the most qualified candidates but fortunate enough not to be white.
