Les didn’t ask to make the money (like elite coach in year 1) that Drinkwitz will want from LSU. Drinkwitz wants to make 10-11 million a year. That’s insane. He isn’t worth that. Go get a different coach

Why are so many of you hung up on this like it matters?

Because he isn’t worth that. You can get a better coach for a lot less money. It will be easier to cut bait if a cheaper coach doesn’t work out. You see the mess we are in now with Kelly. We don’t want that again.

Well that totally depends on the buyout not the yearly salary number

Well Bear Bryant built the foundation for Saban to success then
yes bryant build a brand that made alabama a historical power and blue blood. Alabama is able to sell the blue blood historic foundation bryant built. Does not mean every coach at Alabama will be successful, it is just a notch on the belt as a selling point for the program, Saban built upon that already historic foundation that probably made it a bit easier for him to succeed there

Generally the higher the salary the higher the buyout. A better coach gets paid more and can demand a higher salary and buyout. Drinkwitz is getting paid like a good coach but he isn’t one. He will want to get the salary and buyout of a 10+ million a year coach. He isn’t in that class of coaches. Mizzou is desperate and paying him because they can’t get anyone else. LSU can do better and pay much less as far as a buyout

If he leaves mizzou they could hire what half this board thinks is the best candidate for the lsu job

Les was a lot of things, but one thing that can’t be taken from him is that his teams were mean. Hard nosed old school football which actually turned into his demise.

Smoke screen, he won't be the guy. Think about it.
Dude's already making a ton of money and that would mean LSU is indeed going to pay 8 figures a year for a coach, which would mean far better candidates would be in play that are more proven and better fits
Can't see it. All I see is smoke...

Drink is not coming in on the heels of a saban built national champion roster. Miles left 2 or 3 on the table
Stop this nonsense...the guys that were on the roster in Sabans final yr, were freshmen or sophomores, by the time we got to the natty in 07, they were seniors, with more time under miles than Saban. Miles also got to another natty way after Daban was gone and coaching on the opposite side of the field

and what happened?
Posted on 11/13/25 at 6:42 pm to Tiger Ryno
Come on.
Les Went to 3 SECCGs, 2 national title games and won a national title.
Despite how it all ended, he was coach over the most successful run in school history.

Do you realize the the Les Miles era resulted in the winningest decade of LSU football.
And that’s after going 28-21 at Oklahoma state.
Imagine today if LSU hired someone with that record.

on a foundation he didn't build
That is a fair point, but other coaches have inherited great foundations and didn’t do anything with it.

I also add that after the 2007 and all the Saban players were gone, he went on to build maybe the second best roster the school has ever had

Anyone arguing that Miles was a good or great coach and didn’t succeed because of the program he was at isn’t worth arguing with.

If you think he wasn’t a good coach you are a fricking fool. Is he one of the best ever, of course not but….
The fact that Brian Kelly failed here should put Miles in a more favorable light. BK proved that even at LSU you can’t just show up and rely on talent alone to win.

but he won at App St
He only coached 1 season at App State and just kept Satterfield's train rolling.
2019 - Drink - 13-1 Conf Champ - Won New Orleans Bowl
2018 - Satterfield - 11-2 Conf Champ - Won New Orleans Bowl
2017 - Satterfield - 9-4 Conf Champ - Won Dollar General Bowl
2016 - Satterfield - 10-3 Conf Champ - Won Camellia Bowl
2015 - Satterfield - 11-2 Conf Runner-Up - Won Camellia Bowl

I’d rather Golesh, Lashlee, or Key.
To be honest, I’d really rather someone who would bring the edge back to LSU football.
We’re soft. And we’ve been soft for a long fricking time.

Drink’s teams consistently run the ball effectively and have good offensive line play.
And the guy you were all spilling your seed over less than two seasons ago come from…. drink’s staff at Missouri
