Don’t Understand The Universal Love For Chiz As DC

He was really rough at his most recent work as a coach at North Carolina. Granted, it wasn’t all his fault but nonetheless that was not a good tenure.
He’s been away from the field a lot for a long time now. He’s more than warmed over. I think the game has passed him by as a coach.
And regarding Busch, his two years as DC he produced defenses that were ranked in the bottom 20 and was fired. No thanks. Good DB coach, poor DC.

Czezik has improved every team he’s been to as a defensive coordinator. Not saying he’s a home run hire, but we could do worse

They went 11-3 and 8-5 his two years there. Look at their record before he got there and after. That was what was rough.
They were the best they've been in a long time with him there.

He had issues at ISU that were kind of glossed over when Auburn hired him. Then we experienced some of those same problems. Didn't really follow his tenure at NC, so I can't speak to that.
You could do worse, but seems like the risk is greater than the reward with him. Nice guy though.

They won because of Fedora’s offense which averaged almost 500 yards a game.
Chiz’s defense gave up 450 yards a game, including 250 yards rushing a game.

Interesting because they didn't win shite with Fedora's offense before or after he was there.

If nothing else , he sends out excellent motivational tweets

Chiz would do fine with all the talent LSU has and gets.

False and true.
Fedora came in and had two winning seasons before Chiz arrived.
After Chiz left to be with family, Fedora had two losing seasons because he hired a DC that was worse than Chiz, John Papuchis, who was really awful.

We are looking at him at DC not HC, there is a major difference. He knows SEC defenses, knows how to recruit (has great name recognition previous success), and seems like a good guy that could get along with the current staff. The more I think about it the more I think he is my personal top choice.

I think Chiz is a viable candidate, along with Mike Macintyre as well.

First line is BS and I saw it coming when I clicked the thread. Should've known.

I agree with this.

How is it BS, Gene?

He improved the UNC defense a ton in his two years there. They were horrible when he took over.
Jumped from 117th in YPP allowed to being ranked 56th then 43rd in his two years.

Yes, they did improve somewhat.
The numbers I see from the ncaa show his first defense ranked around 95 and his second defense ranked around 65. Okay.
I’m not saying that Chiz is a bad coach. Far from it. I think he’s a decent coach. I just find the near universal love for him on this board to be a little odd and his record to be overrated.
I also think he is past his prime. He reached his peak with his 2004 Auburn defense, which was very good, and has been in a steady decline from that point coupled with years away from the game. He stepped away as recently as three years ago to be with family.
I think his motivation and energy are gone. I think he realized this at his last return to coaching. I think he’s comfortable spending time in the studio and with family, talking about football and making good money rather than the near 24/7 bump and grind of being a coach.

you last statement about Busch just contradicted your reason about CHiz....Chiz - although has won a National Championship is a better DC than HC

His defense at Auburn was poo.

Chiz had the defense playing at a decent level. Up from absolutely terrible the year before.
They were middle of the pack nationally in their 11-3 year. In the year before they gave up over 30 points per game. More than capable for the approach of offense Unc had

Not as a DC.
He was DC at Auburn fron 2002-2004
Prior to Chiz
2001 - 35
With Chiz
2002 - 26
2003 - 5
2004 - 5
Post Chiz
2005 - 19
That’s not poo as a DC.
As head coach?
2009 - 68
2010 - 60
2011 - 81
2012 - 79
That definitely had a stink to it.
