Lotta posts shitting on him for coaching in the NAIA. That's ridiculous, not every coach is lucky enough to spend his early years at a SEC or P5 job. Anyone who thinks the # of fans in attendance determines whether a win is meaningful or not is a fricking idiot. He's a clear winner and was a great hire for Bama. Turning a 4-8 team to 14-1 is impressive regardless of conference. Hopefully he stops winning and they turn into Mississippi State.

Harsin was a lazy POS and didn't even go undefeated with Boise State in far worse conference

Good coach. No arguing that. What’s funny though is the gumps made fun of Kelly’s non D1 wins when we hired him, and now Deboers non D1 wins make him a bad arse and a worthy Saban apprentice.

No one is shitting on him for coaching NAIA. Alabama fans won’t shut the frick up about his 114-7 record that’s bolstered by his NAIA stint from 2005-2009 while they ignore the legitimate concerns about him like his terrible recruiting track record and lack of time spent consecutively at the same D1 program. Ed Orgeron put the greatest team ever together with a Heisman QB, how much does Penix have to do with DeBoer’s success over the past 2 years?

No people ARE shitting on him for coaching NAIA, just look at the first page of coaching board. I hope he does recruit terribly and they get only 2 stars from Foley.

I'll disagree with you without hating you. As LSU fans what we can all agree on is we hope the Alabama football program crashes and burns hard. I think it happens sooner rather than later, but who knows

Oh yeah, I'm totally shitting all over him for puffing up his record with game wins in front of 500 fans.

Not everyone coach has their first gig at Michigan or Florida playing in front of 90,000 dude. He was a monster success at a place with no resources playing against teams with no resources too and winning. You don't go 'Oh that win doesn't count since only 500 people showed up'

NAIA wins are like 5A high school wins. At best.

Deboer is a fine hire but this is Alabama.

Should be able to pull whoever they want.

They hired a guy with 2 years of P5 experience no experience or ties in the south and is also a poor recruiter on top of that even in his area (recruited below Washington’s typical average)

Could it work? Maybe.

Just would think with bamas prestige they could pull better.

To be fair, he inherited a juggernaut and just kept it going. They were averaging like 10-1 or something the previous few seasons before he got there.

I think he’s a very good coach. I’d be happy with the hire at LSU if we surrounded him with elite recruiters.

So when do we start counting high school w-l records in coaches records?

Chad morris would appreciate it.

Yea Chad Morris went from High School straight to Arkansas... Good high school record gives you an opportunity to coach at a low tier college level then you do good there and go to the next level. That's what coaches who don't have an 'in' at top programs have to do, work their way up. You shouldn't be disparaged because you had to go the long route to the top.

Ok.

You gonna count Chad Morris high school wins for his next interview in college?

Touting his w-l record and “he just wins at every level” is like saying Chad morris will be a success because he went 169-38 in Texas high school football and revitalized SMU.

If you wanna talk about how your coach has won 10000 games people are gonna rag on 90% of them being a club sport.

Thats just an expected outcome.

Chad Morris was hired b/c of his run as Clemson's OC, though.

This is where the question comes in: who did they pass on for KD?

He may be just fine at Bama and in the SEC. He likely won't have another Penix at QB for awhile.

Penix was legit. Lots of coaches get raises and jobs after a Heisman type QB leads the team. Can he do it without Penix and in a league with plenty of talent....

We will see.

My favorite is when they say it's a weak hire and that Lanning or Sark would have been better. Two guys who are combined 0-5 against DeBoer with superior rosters. It's almost like wins and losses don't matter.

The guy's record is impressive. 10-1 against the top 25 at Washington, 12-2 overall against the top 25 at his last two stops, 21 game winning streak, CFP win and national championship appearance, played in a highly competitive Pac 12 this season, OC for Penix at Indiana and brought him over to Washington and coached him as HC, etc

Why? Penix was a transfer. He won't be able to get comparable transfers at Alabama?
