KEZI in Eugene is reporting that the Miami Dolphins have been in contact with Oregon coach Chip Kelly regarding their vacant head coaching position.

However, the report is being contradicted by the Miami Herald.

Miami went 6-10 in 2011 and fired coach Tony Sparano on Dec. 13. Former Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher is believed to be Miami's first choice. But he's also being courted by the St. Louis Rams. Reports indicate Fisher will make a decision by this weekend.

Should he select the Rams, Kelly could be in play for the Miami job.

I've always wondered if the Spread Option would ever make it to the NFL. It certainly could crash and burn, but with the top athletes you can get on a NFL team, it might work.

Dolphins hire Chip, draft RG3, and has Reggie Bush in the backfield. Sounds good on paper...

Spread Option in the NFL? That just wouldn't even look right.

That door has been open though, it's gonna happen eventually.

Maybe not the Dolphins, but another desperate franchise...

Possibly. I just cannot get over how weird that would look.

After the saban debacle I don't see the Dolphins going after another college coach.

It was hardly a "debacle". Saban was 15-17 in 2 seasons without a quality QB. Saban just realized he was out of his element trying to intimidate professional players like they were 18-21 year old kids.

The problem always has been in the NFL that teams can adapt faster since they just have way better talent at all positions. The wildcat worked for 1 year. I think Cam is going to have a rude awakening next year when DCs get to watch a ton of film.

This move sounds retarded

So you dont realize that Cam also gets a whole offseason to improve in the O.

I think it could work b/c you would still tire the defense out.

I like what Newton did this year; he was way better than I or anyone could have expected. I think this year will be the best of Cam's career honestly. Another year in the O for a QB when his best receiver is getting older. I like Cam, but the NFL has shown that his style only works for a limited period of time

Yeah I think you are way off on the Cam is good for one year. In fact people have underestimated Cam the whole way. He has the intangibles, talent, and work ethic to be whatever type of QB is needed.

His passing numbers may change as the running game balances out, but he will only get better with maturity. He has better pocket presence then Vick did in his first year. The only thing that will change his path as a successful QB in the NFL would be an injury(heaven forbid that to happen).
