Leftwich will soon be in line for a NFL job. No reason to take Marshall job.

This has a good chance of backfiring on Marshall. Doc is a good coach.
If he wants to coach next year at an ACC/SEC/Big12 team, they will make room for him on their staff. He's spent the majority of his career coaching at West Virginia, where he was also a player. He's also had stops at NC State and Florida.

Coaching career (HC unless noted)
1979–1980 West Virginia (GA)
1981–1982 West Virginia (GA)
1983–1989 West Virginia (WR)
1990–1992 West Virginia (LB)
1993–1994 West Virginia (WR)
1995–1999 West Virginia (AHC/WR)
2000–2004 NC State (AHC/WR)
2005–2007 Florida (AHC/S/RC)
2008–2009 West Virginia (AHC/TE/FB/RC)
2010–2020 Marshall

If the Bucs have a deep playoff run, it’s almost a lock he’ll get head coach interest. Arians speaks highly of him every chance he gets

Wow. From 2017:

A wild story has emerged from West Virginia as politics and college football have collided in a major way at Marshall.

According to reports in the WV Metro News and Charleston Gazette-Mail, West Virginia governor Jim Justice "has sought to oust the head football coach, Doc Holliday, and install his longtime friend and former Herd coach Bobby Pruett."

He might be an incredible a-hole and nobody wants to work with him. Because it's certainly not on the field results.

I perused the Marshall Rivals board for a bit, and surprisingly, it appears most of their fans saw this coming, and they aren't upset about it.

When I saw posts complaining about "happy being mediocre" and "one championship in 11 years", it felt like I was reading tRant from a few years ago.

Maybe there's more behind the scenes dirt on the pay site, but it seems like Marshall was ready to move on, and the 3-game losing streak to end the season gave them an opportunity to do so.

They're about to tank. Did they learn nothing from Nebraaka/Solich?

Texas just fired a coach with a .640 winning percentage.
Everyone wants to win. Marshall thinks they can do better just like Texas does. And just like Texas, Marshall has done better in the past so it's not pure howling at the moon.
And sure, there's a good chance that they'll end up worse off.

What a stupid firing. Find a place for him on LSU's staff I'd love to have his connections here.

I'm trying to imagine how our fanbase (or UofL's) would react if the Governor tried to pull some shite like that.

If JBE had the balls to do this I honestly think it could start a revolution here. And that’s nothing to do with O

That was when they were in the MAC and they were caught paying players and committing academic fraud.

When they first went 1-A in a horrible MAC conference at the time. Randy Moss ain't walking through that door. This is going to backfire. What coach will want to deal with the drama? They better hope they already have their head coach lined up. Because they just severely limited who they'll be able to hire. This is going to be Southern Miss./ECU 2.0, when they got rid of Bower and McNeill.

Absolutely not the case. He’s the exact opposite from what I understand

This sounds very much like the Ruffin McNeill and ECU situation. Both were extremely popular and loved at the school and in the community, yet fired because someone has an agenda.

Yeah, Marshall has to understand they aren't one of the NCAA programs allowed to do this.
